Before unplugging the dock

Sorry for the delayed response. Due to many hardware issues with my T14, I
stopped using Linux as my main desktop OS. I booted my system and noticed the
bug again and remembered this bug report so I decided to test it properly.

Hardware info: Thinkpad T14 AMD Gen 1 and Thinkpad USB-C dock Gen 2

This is definitely not a KDE / KWin / KScreen bug. To be sure, I decided to use
a completely different software stack to test it. I used a wlroots based
Wayland compositor, Wayfire [1]. With wlr based compositors, one can use
wlr-randr utility in a similar way to xrandr. As it can be seen in the
attachments the port organization changes after unplugging and replugging the
dock.

I don't think this is a Plasma/KScreen bug. Probably a kernel or userspace
driver bug. Because one can check xrandr and replugging will result in
increment in the port number.

Archlinux introduced new security limitations which blocks session for 15 mins
after 3 consequent failed attempts. Probably Manjaro copied the pam package
too. Edit /etc/security/faillock.conf to disable this or increase the number of
failed attempts before blocking.

[kscreenlocker] [Bug 428706] New: Cannot unlock session after screen switches off in Wayland

2020-11-04 Thread Ongun Kanat

Bug ID: 428706
Summary: Cannot unlock session after screen switches off in

   Product: kscreenlocker
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux

The output of journalctl --boot 0 --priority warning

SUMMARY
I decided to try Wayland session out since I have a new Hi-DPI monitor. However
I cannot unlock if the session goes into power saving mode and switches the
display off. I can see and move the mouse but the greeter screen does not show
up. I can reproduce the bug reliably. I can unlock the session using loginctl
unlock-session. There are a couple of crashes in journalctl.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Lock the screen or wait until plasma locks it down
2. Wait until screen switches off

OBSERVED RESULT
Cannot login. Entering the password "in the dark" does not unlock the session.
I have to switch into a TTY to unlock it with loginctl.

EXPECTED RESULT
The screen locker should be displayed and I should be able to unlock.

Screenshot for Clearlooks Phenix

SUMMARY
While using theme_ for a uniform look between GTK and KDE it leads unintended
results. Not every GTK theme is designed to support colors but some of them
still use theme_* items which causes some GTK themes to break.

My proposed solution is using a completely different naming scheme (if GTK3
allows this) for Breeze-gtk and modifying kcm_color accordingly KDE's
@define-color items can have some prefix like kde_theme_fg_color in
~/.config/colors.css file.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Choose Breeze dark in kcm_color
2. Install gtk3-widget-factory
3. Download latest release Clearlooks-Phenix (
https://github.com/jpfleury/clearlooks-phenix )
4. Extract contents in a folder under ~/.themes . I will rename the top level
directory that contains index.theme as clearfoo
5. Run GTK_THEME=clearfoo gtk3-widget-factory

OBSERVED RESULT
Breeze-dark colors set in ~/.config/gtk-3.0/colors.css override some of the
colors of Clearlooks Phenix and break the theme.

EXPECTED RESULT
GTK themes other than the ones strive for KDE compatibility shouldn't be
affected by KDE's color settings.

SUMMARY
I have a ElanTech multi-touch touchpad with two-finger vertical / horizontal
scrolling support. I use Synaptics X11 driver.

If a text file with lines longer than the view frame of KTextEditor is loaded,
I encounter a weird diagonal scrolling behavior when I scroll vertically. I
don't mean small amounts of horizontal scrolling caused by hand.

I don't encounter this problem with other Qt and GTK text editors.

Videos of Kate, Geany and Notepadqq when I am scrolling using the same gesture
/ hand position is attached.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Load a text file with long lines or resize the window of a editor which uses
KTextEditor (Kate, Kwrite etc.)
2. Try scrolling vertically

OBSERVED RESULT
KTextEditor scrolls both vertically and horizontally

EXPECTED RESULT
KTextEditor should scroll vertically a negligible amount of horizontal
scrolling is acceptable.

SUMMARY
Maximization effect doesn't work for some windows even though I slowed the
effect down. The affected windows are native Wayland applications while for
XWayland applications maximize effect works perfectly.

I tried native wayland apps such as systemsettings5, smplayer, qtcreator,
weston-terminal and apps that use XWayland like firefox, gimp, glxgears. The
maximize effect doesn't work for wayland native apps while it perfectly works
apps run through XWayland.

OBSERVED RESULT
Maximizing native wayland windows happen immediately without showing any
effects.

EXPECTED RESULT
Maximizing native wayland windows renders maximization effect.

KDEConnect has all the permissions Telephone, SMS, Contacts and Storage. File
system expose is already enabled and as I said I can write internal storage.

I guess so. Since all apps denied to access external SD card on Android 5+
unless in the saving dialog user explicitly selects external SD. For file
sharing (sending & receiving), I can use this trick to select save location and
writes work. However File System Expose plugin does not have this sort of
option to select any location in SD card to enable it to write SD card.

In possibility of my report being ignored since duplication, I want to notice
devs about that downgrading KDE Frameworks to 5.42 fixes this problem. I think
the root cause is in between KF5 and Plasma and about how they communicate.
I've provided some logs in my report and can give more info if needed.

When i try to write something in an external SD card it denies access. Writing
into internal storage works. Thinking the possibility that FUSE permissions are
broken, on my desktop I tried to touch a file as root and it failed.

I think the most possible case is the fact that the policy in Android 5+ which
prevents any app to write to external SD cards unless it's given an explicit
permission to do so.

I set my destination folder as the root of the external SD card for receiving
files. However, while browsing via Dolphin it's not allowed to write external
SD. Does KDEConnect use a service whose privileges needs to be set?

It looks like Solid uses udisks2 default mount options which mounts external
NTFS drives with 777 permissions. Exec permission is rarely needed for NTFS
drives and might be dangerous for users. External USB drives a constantly used
attack vector against incautious users.

Since udisks2 doesn't allow its hardcoded default permissions to be changed via
a config file implementing it in Solid might be a good way to achieve a safer
default.

I also have been encountering this problem for a while. It is still
reproducible for me on Plasma 5.11.3. The system becomes unresponsive to
keyboard so Ctrl+Alt+F(1,2,3...) doesn't work. My attempts to gain keyboard
input via magic SysRq combination Alt+SysRq+R then trying to switch TTYs were
also failed. I don't have ssh on my machine so after an unsuccessful trial I
continue the sequence of Alt + SysRq + {R,E,I,S,U,B} and reboot my laptop.

The problem is always reproducible and occurs when I log out from X11 session
and log in to Wayland. If I log in to Wayland session directly after a reboot,
logout and reboot works correctly. Thinking it might be a cleanup/clean exit
issue I have recorded process trees as well as the journalctl log you can find
them below. The second clue that it might be a cleanup issue is that
systemd/dbus residue after logging out X11 session. Killing all the processes
from previous session results in correct behavior. It still might be a SDDM
issue though. Unfortunately I cannot test Wayland session without systemd.

Konsole behaves strangely when a new instance is launched (via Krunner,
command, or shortcut). It launches the new window working in the same working
directory with previous windows.

As I can see it does not launch another konsole instance, but says the existing
process to launch a new window. I thought it shares the same code part as tab
creation (didn't dig into code). So I changed the "Initial directory" to my
home directory and also unchecked "Start in the same directory as current tab"
in current profile settings dialog. Looks like it doesn't work for new windows
and it launches the new window while PWD set where the previously open tab's
PWD is.

The strange thing is that the new tabs are opened working in my home directory
while new windows follow the previous tab.

   Version: 5.3.0
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist

 Component: message list
  Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: ongun.ka...@gmail.com

To traverse messages (i.e selecting next or previous message) in a folder (the
message list) Kmail uses PgUp and PgDown keys or right or left arrow keys as
default. I think it is unituitive since people are used to traverse list boxes
with up/down arrow keys. I know It's configurable but it's frustrating to find
correct keys and cumbersome to edit shortcuts. So I suggest changing the
defaults as up and down. Also changing the current message causes message list
to lose its focus and it is not efficient while skimming messages quickly.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Open any folder and try to traverse the messages

It is a very old archive I don't remember how it was created but probably an
old version of WinRAR might be used.

[ark] [Bug 357134] New: Ark is unable to open RAR archives after update to 15.12

2015-12-24 Thread Ongun Kanat via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357134

Bug ID: 357134
Summary: Ark is unable to open RAR archives after update to
15.12
   Product: ark
   Version: 15.12.0
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: elvis.angelac...@kdemail.net
  Reporter: ongun.ka...@gmail.com
CC: rak...@freebsd.org

Ark 15.12 cannot open specific RAR archives that 15.08 can open. I have two
files that I'm sure they are not broken (I can open both of them in Ark 15.08
and WinRAR).

In the first file Ark 15.12 shows the file names in the brand new comment
section but contents of the archive are not displayed. I can extract its
contents via Dolphin's right click menu.
You can access the file from here: https://goo.gl/ZQCEux
The screenshot for it: https://goo.gl/yZDCKH
It works on Ark 15.08: https://goo.gl/iW3Djq

In the other one Ark 15.12 completely denies opening the file. In the version
15.08, Ark asks for a file type for this file if I select RAR It opens and
shows me the contents correctly (The ask option has removed but this is another
bug report). I can also extract it using Ark 15.08.
At the moment I don't have a fast connection but I will upload the file soon
(~200MiB)
The screenshot of the error: https://goo.gl/xnli7V
The option window in Ark 15.08: https://goo.gl/s7mjeI
And It also works on Ark 15.08: https://goo.gl/537Fi8

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Open a specific RAR archive.

Actual Results:
Files are not shown or Ark 15.12 denies opening the file

Expected Results:
Ark opens and contents are correctly shown
