[plasmashell] [Bug 371560] New: Add a way to disable Kickoff launch with Meta key

2016-10-24 Thread Abderrahman Najjar via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=371560

Bug ID: 371560
Summary: Add a way to disable Kickoff launch with Meta key
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.8.2
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Application Launcher (Kickoff)
  Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Reporter: abderrahman.naj...@gmail.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org

I get that the meta key is used in Windows, and so new users expect it to work
that way in Plasma too. I'm an old time user, and I haven't used Windows in
years. I don't like that meta now kicks off Kickoff

I bind meta+[key] to a number of tasks and applications, and if I change my
mind about that (I start pressing meta, but then decide "nah") the launcher
appears. And it doesn't hide when meta is pressed again (bug 367685)

If KDE is adamant on having the meta key kickoff behavior as default, add an
option to disable that. If not, then disable that behavior by default, and add
an option to enable it for those who'd like it.

Reproducible: Always

[plasma-nm] [Bug 357816] NM applet icon when connected to WiFi & VPN is the same as disconnected

2016-09-04 Thread Abderrahman Najjar via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357816

This issue seems to have returned in 5.7.4 in a way.
The disconnected icon appears after login (and a successful connection). To
correct it, I have to kill plasmashell, then run it again (I use screen to keep
it running after exiting Konsole).

I thought it was a cache issue at first (deleted, then rebuilt with
kbuildsycoca5), but then I tried to just kill plasma and start without it, and
I confirmed that it's not a cache issue.

Right-click context menu in smb:// - Paste grayed out

I'm on 16.08.0 for both Dolphin & dolphin-plugins, on Arch, Plasma 5.7.4, KF
5.25.0.

The right-click context menu has the "Paste x items" entry grayed when I try to
paste in my smb directory. And it's the same issue with Ctrl+V (doesn't paste).
However, if I drag and drop while holding ctrl or shift (or using the context
menu that appears) it works as it should.

I should mention that it's not a permissions or access thing (because clearly I
can drag and drop, and I've also checked the share's settings). It's the
complete opposite of bug 290494.

Oddly, this only happens when pasting into the same opened directory, but not
if pasting into a directory inside the current one. (see the attached images)

This applies to local to smb, as well as from the smb to itself.

Does this mean that we have to wait for the next systemd release for a fix? If
so, we're talking months here. I left the lid open, but in the last days had
KTorrent downloading and running. I came back today and found that it went to
sleep once all the downloads had finished! It's not a serious bug, but in terms
of "quality of usage" it ranks high.

The "Magner Generator" solution doesn't work. It still crashes with many Magnet
URIs

I've had to REISUB my system three time in the last hour alone because of this.
It's a terrible bug because it's sneaky. It doesn't raise the CPU, so unlike
Baloo there's no fan whirring up to indicate something is consuming the clock.
This is only caught when the RAM runs out, and then everything needs to move to
swap to make more room... then it's too late and the PC doesn't respond to
anything. I'd go as far as saying this could kill the HDD.

KTorrent 5.02, KF 5.25, Qt 5.7. First time this ever happens

'amarok --debug-audio' on VLC

But this is an entirely new issue

I've been playing those files for a long time on Amarok (years) without similar
problems. And the issue isn't related to this directory, but all music files
(and video files for that matter in VLC) show the same issue

I switched Amarok to Phonon GStreamer because Phonon VLC was too buggy (one of
the more annoying bugs is that it kept setting Amarok's volume to VLC's) and I
thought switching to GStreamer for Qt4 would solve the conflict (Amarok is the
only Qt4 application on my PC that uses audio). Before all of this I was on VLC
for both Qt4/5

Here's the output after switching back to VLC. It skipped, but I don't see the
files in the log

Alright, firstly I don't know the source of this bug. I filed it under Amarok,
but the dev there told me it's not related to Amarok

I suspect that the underlying libvlc used in the backend is the root cause

If VLC is running with a file in play (paused or resuming), then Amarok will
behave wrongly. Amarok will skip tracks in the playlist (actually it's seeking
to the end of the file, then the player moves on to the next song which then
again it finds itself at the end of the file which means it has to move to the
next one and so on), till it reaches a random track on that playlist that it'll
play fully.

In VLC meanwhile, sometimes the next played file will seek randomly to a point
in the video (but not to the end. Most of the time it skips the first 2 minutes
or so).

This behavior in Amarok stops when I press "Stop" in VLC. It doesn't matter if
Amarok was running first, or was started during VLC's playback (or if Amarok
had a file loaded 'paused' or not).

I've changed Amarok back to the GStreamer backend (but in System Settings it's
still set to prefer VLC). The problem still persists.

I've captured Amarok's debug output, not sure if it's much of a help:
https://paste.kde.org/pza1te60q

Please point me to the right direction if this isn't a Phonon bug

pacman -Qs phonon
local/phonon-qt4 4.9.0-1

local/phonon-qt5-vlc 0.9.0-1

local/vlc 2.2.3-2
local/amarok 2.8.0-9

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a video file in VLC
2. Try playing a song in Amarok
3. Amarok will keep skipping tracks

It would be great if there were a feature that enables queuing file transfers.

A scenario: I want to copy/move directories or files placed in different
locations on the same source (e.g. /mnt/audio/dir1 /mnt/images/dir2, I want to
copy both dir1 and dir2). Or if I remember or add additional files after
starting.

The way it works now is that all transfers work in parallel. This makes IO
suffer if the number of transfers is enough to saturate the port.

Basically, the option of treating multiple transfers the same way individual
files in the same transfer are treated.

I don't know exactly how to describe this, but here it is

Amarok is running, playing MP3 files just fine. Then I open MKV files (AVC,
AAC) in VLC, they play normally. When I go back to Amarok to continue the
playback, it plays a millisecond then moves on the next and does the same,
until it goes through all the playlist (as if the files are corrupt). I have to
quit VLC for Amarok to go back to playing normally.

I'd like to point out that it weren't always like that (a regression)

Amarok is 2.8.0-8, phonon-qt5-vlc 0.8.2-4, VLC 2.2.2-3

There are some workaround proposed, but they don't work. Bug 356737 says it's

The issue has been fixed for a while now. I have my settings on US, and my
clock in the 24h format through the individual changes in the 'Formats' section
of the Regional Settings

[plasmashell] [Bug 361531] New: Clicking notification popup no longer hides it

2016-04-08 Thread Abderrahman Najjar via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=361531

Bug ID: 361531
Summary: Clicking notification popup no longer hides it
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.6.2
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Notifications
  Assignee: mklape...@kde.org
  Reporter: abderrahman.naj...@gmail.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org

Prior to Plasma 5.6, if I'm not wrong, clicking on a notification popup made it
disappear (the same action as clicking on the X button in its corner). However,
this is no longer possible, and the user has to click X to hide it (or wait for
it to autohide).

Why is that the case now? I could understand if the purpose was to prevent
accidental hiding if the user was in that area and clicked just as the
notification appeared. But now the notifications are persistent and show in the
notifications applet (so even if the notification was dismissed by accident,
the user can go back and read it)

Reproducible: Always

I've updated to v5.6.2-1 from the Arch repos, and the issue is still present.

There's a button, but clicking it doesn't take the selection back to today,
neither does closing (hiding) the applet. Clicking the "today" button actually
just takes me back to the current month if I flip to another one

[plasmashell] [Bug 360683] Cannot deselect (un-highlight) a date in the Calendar popup

2016-03-20 Thread Abderrahman Najjar via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=360683

If you mean the font of the clock, I'm not bothered by it. I've gotten used to
it, and I don't think it's very big

However, I do miss the ability to edit time/date formats like in KDE4, which
was lost after moving to Qt5. I'm more bothered by the movement of the systray
when the hour turns to double digits (e.g. 9:59 -> 10:00), which I used to set
in time settings to be always double digits (09:59 -> 10:00).

[dolphin] [Bug 360643] New: Dolphin doesn't obey time/date settings in "Formats" (Sys settings)

2016-03-19 Thread Abderrahman Najjar via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=360643

Bug ID: 360643
Summary: Dolphin doesn't obey time/date settings in "Formats"
(Sys settings)
   Product: dolphin
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: abderrahman.naj...@gmail.com

Dolphin doesn't follow the settings for time & date formatting set in System
Settings.

I've set my settings to be in 24h for example, and Dolphin shows time in 12h

This adds to the visual inconsistency, both in the DE as a whole, and between
different items in a Dolphin window. In a Dolphin window, when browsing a
directory, the date & time for the items within doesn't appear underneath one
another. This breaks the visual consistency, and makes it harder to follow
date/time for the items (some items are 2-digit, others are 1-digit, thus the
two take different spaces and aren't aligned).

In summary: 1) Dolphin doesn't follow the global time/date settings. 2)
Dolphin's own time formatting isn't visually consistent

Reproducible: Always

I think since 5.5 the configuration icon has been missing from the Connect menu

The button is there, but no icon (and there's no visual indication of the
button without hovering over it)

I've attached two pictures that show the issue

Actually this is exactly like an old bug (#326401) in Plasma4. It wasn't in the
versions before 5.5 IIRC.

When connected to WiFi only, the icon is black (connected), but when connecting
to a VPN, it returns to blue (disconnected)

I've only tried it on Wireless networks, so I don't know if the same applies to
LAN connections.
I've attached three images, one disconnected, one with WiFi only, and the other
is WiFi+VPN.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Connect to Wi-Fi
2. Connect to VPN

wasn't reactive (it was similar to a picture). The items didn't respond to
clicking
