[kwin] [Bug 462139] New: Tiling windows hangs their activity and makes the contents of the window messed up

2022-11-22 Thread Adam Golański
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=462139

Bug ID: 462139
Summary: Tiling windows hangs their activity and makes the
contents of the window messed up
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.26.3
  Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: compositing
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: adam.golan...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

When one tries to tile a KDE application window, such as by dragging it to the
left/right edge of the window, or by doing it via keyboard shortcuts, then
something breaks in the 50% screen area fill mode. Content of the window
becomes messed up and non-responsive. After dragging window to normal position,
it regains responsiveness.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open KDE app, for example Kate
2. Tile window to left 50%with mouse or keyboard

OBSERVED RESULT

Tiled window becomes "broken", content is messed, you can't interact with it
 (looks like this: https://i.imgur.com/1Gl3DnJ.png)

EXPECTED RESULT

Tiled window should work :)

[okular] [Bug 442046] New: copy-paste from LTR languages bring reversed text

Bug ID: 442046
Summary: copy-paste from LTR languages bring reversed text
   Product: okular
   Version: 21.08.0
  Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: PDF backend
  Assignee: okular-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: adam.golan...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

Copying arabic and hebrew text strings from Okular to paste it in another
program makes them reversed and garbled. Changing LTR settings doesn't help.
I've tested this with Foxit PDF Reader and it worked OK.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. select and copy to clipboard arabic or hebrew text in Okular, for example
אשר, האיש—אשר לא הלך, בעצת רשעים
ال َق ِدي ْ

2. paste it to Libre Office or Google Docs

OBSERVED RESULT

you're getting something like
םיעשר תצעב ,ךלה אל רשא—שיאה ,רשא
ر ْ يِ دق َ لا

(yeah, in Arabic its really horrible :D)

EXPECTED RESULT

it should keep correct LTR flow:
אשר, האיש—אשר לא הלך, בעצת רשעים
ال َق ِدي ْ

[kwalletmanager] [Bug 412825] New: With automatic login enabled, kwallet doesn't ask for password fast enough for enabling network

2019-10-10 Thread Adam Golański
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=412825

Bug ID: 412825
Summary: With automatic login enabled, kwallet doesn't ask for
password fast enough for enabling network
   Product: kwalletmanager
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: va...@kde.org
  Reporter: adam.golan...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

On the systems with Auto Login enabled (Startup and Shutdown > Login Screen >
Advanced), soon after launch Network Manager tries to initialize the Wi-Fi
network for about 10 seconds – and fails miserably, as it doesn't have access
to the Wi-Fi password

Only then Wallet asks for user password, provides it to Network Manager, so the
user can start Wi-Fi connection manually.

While it is probably not a bug per se, its bad UX. It would be nice if:

1. Wi-Fi passwords on systems with automatic login enabled would be accessible
for network manager without providing user password.

If it is not possible due to security reasons, then at least:

2. Turning auto login ON would switch automatic wifi connection OFF, or
3. Kwallet asks for user password to unlock access to Wi-Fi password quickly
enough for Network Manager to connect to Wi-Fi at first attempt.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Switch the login style to Auto Login
2. Have a set up automatic wi-fi connection with password (like WPA2)

OBSERVED RESULT

Wi-Fi connection fails after autologin and only then wallet system asks for
user password

EXPECTED RESULT

Seamless wifi connection on autologin systems

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

This is actually very strange behavior, discovered in both KDE Neon user
edition and Kubuntu 19.04, so it may be a problem with specific version of KDE
software.

I've tried to install these distros on Thinkpad 13 laptop, with the
S11-256G-PHISON-SDD (it may be important). The systems boot into the live
session, with the installer on desktop.

After running the installer, when a user chooses the keyboard settings and
comes to the software selection, the installer becomes stuck, only the mouse
cursor spins forever. Process manager shows

What is interesting, other distros don't have this problem. I successfully
installed new versions of Deepin Linux and Manjaro KDE 18.0.4 on this hardware.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Flash the ISO of KDE Neon or Kubuntu on the pendrive,
2. Try to install distro with default settings on Thinkpad 13 laptop
3. Watch as the installer hangs, like something is wrong with access to the
storage.

OBSERVED RESULT

Installation of the distro is impossible

EXPECTED RESULT

The installer should finish its job.

Maybe I have this file dialog on very small resolution (i.e raspberry pi
touchscreen 800x480, or in VMware virtual machine without installed drivers)?
Or maybe I need to see things in the background and don't want to resize window
to a full screen by clicking "maximize"?

Can you help me understand why the possibility of changing column size was
removed from KDE file picker Detailed View?

However the most important thing is why in the default size, column "Name"
becomes unreadable, as shown there. User shall not have to do extra steps (e.g.
window resizing) just to see the file names.

2018-12-08 Thread Adam Golański
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=401807

Short View doesn't show vertical list, needs to be scrolled horizontally.
Tree View is something else altogether.

I just don't see any reason for removing the expected behavior, especially in
way which makes default view broken – Name column becomes unreadable before
window is resized.

It would be nice to remember that KDE used to have normal behavior for this
feature – users could easily change column width according to their needs.

https://www.ultraimg.com/image/PqHm

If you don't consider this as a bug, you should at least consider make in
default view full-width Name column. Usually name of the file is more important
for the user than its size or date. This view is just broken from the usability
viewpoint:

Well, maybe I am not very interested in the content of the other columns? I
resize them according to my custom needs.

Removing such possibility is in my opinion against the spirit of KDE/Plasma,
definitely more in the line with GNOME/Gtk paradigm, where the UX is forced on
the used.

Yet even in the Gtk file dialog, you have option to hide Size column.
And we have KDE dialog where nothing in this file list view can be customized.

I just don't see the point of making a default of a unique behavior, going
against user habits from Windows, macOS and GNOME/Gtk. Such fixed width for
columns should be optional.

> If you could resize the columns, then the resized columns would be

They are non-useful from the start, after opening the file dialog. You have
Name column too narrow to read file name, while Filesize and Date have
convenient width.

https://imgur.com/a/5Y2vUC8

And I can't change the size of Name column to see file names. User is forced to
maximize the whole window.

This is highly unusual behavior. For example win32 file picker gives you method
for granular control of column widths.

https://imgur.com/a/bhrjKaK

You can even manage the types of file properties shown in the file dialog:
https://imgur.com/a/BRcxgTe

Gtk file picker gives you method for controling column widths:
https://imgur.com/a/sKwSApr

And the same is for macOS:

https://www.ultraimg.com/image/PlWV

So the KDE file picker is the only one now which has no method for changing the
column width. In my opinion it is against UX expected by users.

[neon] [Bug 400004] telegram-desktop broken dependencies in KDE Neon

2018-11-06 Thread Adam Golański

Yes, flatpak version works correctly. The problem is that Discover shows the
Telegram from Ubuntu repos amongst the recommended software. For the
non-technical users, beginners, it could be very confusing.

So the actual problem lies in KDE Software: Discover recommending
non-installable app.
