[KScreen] [Bug 471640] New: Lost ability to tile 3 displays when "for only this specific display arrangement" is selected

2023-06-29 Thread Arcadiy Ivanov
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=471640

Bug ID: 471640
Summary: Lost ability to tile 3 displays when "for only this
specific display arrangement" is selected
Classification: Plasma
   Product: KScreen
   Version: 5.27.6
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: common
  Assignee: kscreen-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: arca...@ivanov.biz
  Target Milestone: ---

This just happened recently. When selecting "Save displays' properties: for
only this specific display arrangement" during applying display configuration
the display configuration fails while screens reset and initialize. Moving to
"for any display arrangement" is a workaround to make things work.

This involves 2 x 4k displays via USB-C dock plus primary laptop screen.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start with "built-in screen". Select "for only this specific display
arrangement" option in screen configuration.
2. Tile the dock's displays around your built-in screen. Click Apply.
3. Observe the flickers of initialization and "New output detected" appearing
several times. Observe that flickers stop and only built-in screen is
configured with dock's displays gone.
4. Repeated the same procedure (1 - 3) with "for any display arrangement".
Observe same flickering etc but all screens configuring normally with all
specified displays.

OBSERVED RESULT
Only built-in screen configured

EXPECTED RESULT
All 3 screens are configured

[KScreen] [Bug 436497] Fedora 34 KDE Wayland is not usable - no multi-monitor detection, 1024x768 resolution only for eDP1 on Dell Precision 5540

I want to make sure there isn't a confusion though - this is not just about
KScreen displaying wrong things. The eDP1 resolution is full native (Fedora
background extends over it entirely), but the plasma desktop and panel and all
the application have the maximal viewport of 1024x768.

F34 KDE on X11 Plasma

Operating System: Fedora 34
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.80.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2
Kernel Version: 5.11.16-300.fc34.x86_64
OS Type: 64-bit
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 16 × Intel® Core™ i9-9980HK CPU @ 2.40GHz
Memory: 62.4 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics 630

KDE X11 Plasma session works in F34 as well as F33.
Login into Wayland session, there is no multi-monitor detection, primary
monitor is detected as "manufacturer_TODO" at 1024x768 only.
The Wayland session is, basically, useless.

Screens are attached.

[konsole] [Bug 432804] New: Konsole hangs with urwid pallete test (xterm works)

2021-02-11 Thread Arcadiy Ivanov
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432804

Bug ID: 432804
Summary: Konsole hangs with urwid pallete test (xterm works)
   Product: konsole
   Version: 20.12.1
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: emulation
  Assignee: konsole-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: arca...@ivanov.biz
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

Urwid is a TUI library for Python.
Pallete test demonstrates console capabilities by printing monochrome, 16
colors, 88 colors, 256 colors and 24bit colors.
Pallete test works perfectly on xterm.
Pallete test hangs Konsole completely with any palletes other than monochrome
and 16 colors.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. pip install -U urwid
2. Downoad https://github.com/urwid/urwid/blob/master/examples/palette_test.py
3. Run `python palette_test.py` in konsole.

OBSERVED RESULT

On any color pallet above 16 colors Konsole hangs until the process is killed.

EXPECTED RESULT

Konsole behaves exactly like xterm, i.e. works.

   Product: KScreen
   Version: 5.17.4
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcm
  Assignee: kscreen-bugs-n...@kde.org

  Target Milestone: ---

Application: kcmshell5 (5.17.4)

Qt Version: 5.12.5
Frameworks Version: 5.64.0
Operating System: Linux 5.4.8-200.fc31.x86_64 x86_64
Distribution: "Fedora release 31 (Thirty One)"

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed:
Trying to enable and arrange external TB3 monitors. The monitors would list,
but would not enable. While selecting refresh rate, the dialog crashed.

- Unusual behavior I noticed:
KScreen on occasion fails to enable the monitors, i.e. apply doesn't do
anything, even though the monitor configuration/status does not get reset after
failure to apply.

[plasmashell] [Bug 414803] New: Losing/corrupted multi-monitor configuration with TB 3.0 dock

2019-12-03 Thread Arcadiy Ivanov
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=414803

Bug ID: 414803
Summary: Losing/corrupted multi-monitor configuration with TB
3.0 dock
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.16.5
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: grave
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Multi-screen support
  Assignee: aleix...@kde.org
  Reporter: arca...@ivanov.biz
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

I'm on a laptop (Dell Precision 5540, Intel + NVidia w/Optimus) that plugs into
Dell WD19TB dock that is hooked up to 2x4k monitors. I am plagued by constant
failures to configure/restore monitor configuration.

The topology is usually in a form of DP2(4K@60Hz) + DP1-1(4K@60Hz) + eDP1
(1080P@60Hz).

The scenario usually goes like this:

1. Laptop is plugged into the TB dock. Displays are adjusted to desired
configuration.
2. Laptop is unplugged, used with eDP1.
3. Laptop is plugged back into the TB dock.

After #3 there are the following scenarios:

a. Configuration and layout restores.
b. Configuration and layout restores, but one of the monitors fails to turn on,
the framebuffer seems to indicate that it is turned on properly but monitor
shows up as not enabled and checking enable and clicking apply does nothing.
c. Both external monitors fail to turn on, enabling them in Displays fails
completely: Enable boxes are cleared after apply, there isn't even an attempt
to enable them, framebuffer is seemingly adjusted as if they were enabled (but
sometimes not).

I'm sick and tired of this to the point I'm willing to debug and fix this
myself (looks like timings etc and improper xrandr commands issued).

Can someone please advise me which modules I need to look at and how to enable
debug logging for monitor configuration?
