[KScreen] [Bug 407743] After power off LG TV, when powering back up the display comes up in the wrong resolution and is unusable.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=407743 --- Comment #1 from Brian T. McKee --- I did a hardware upgrade and a complete reinstall and the problem went away. In fact, the behavior is perfect now. I'm not certain what changed. You can close this ticket. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[Powerdevil] [Bug 407743] New: After power off LG TV, when powering back up the display comes up in the wrong resolution and is unusable.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=407743 Bug ID: 407743 Summary: After power off LG TV, when powering back up the display comes up in the wrong resolution and is unusable. Product: Powerdevil Version: 5.14.5 Platform: Gentoo Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: btmck...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY When turning on the TV connected to the PC running Plasma, the video comes up in the wrong resolution (the highest resolution: 4096 X 2160 50Hz, not the correct resolution: 3840 X 2160 60 Hz) and even though the cursor is active, none of the other controls work. The work around to fix the issue is to press CTRL-ALT-F1 for a console and then CTRL-ALT-F7 to re-init X, then the display is normalized. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Using an LG TV, Yamaha Receiver with video fed through, Nvidia Graphics with binary driver, install plasma, kde, etc. 2. Configure KDE to turn off the monitor after 3 minutes of no activity. 3. Turn off the TV and receiver. 4. Turn on the TV and receiver some time later (more than an hour?) 5. Turn on the receiver and TV (not sure what order, I should do more testing. I'm using a smart remote). OBSERVED RESULT The display comes up in 4096 by 2160 50 Hz instead of 3840 X 2160 60 Hz and the screen is not usable. EXPECTED RESULT The screen should exit power saving / power down cleanly. This only happens when the TV and receiver are turned off. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Kernel 4.9X through 5.1.3 (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.14.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.57.0 Qt Version: 5.11.3 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Please ask questions and suggest ways to get more information. This may not be related to power, it may be KDE improperly restoring the monitor resolution based on the highest resolution available in EDD instead of what's specified in the X config files. But it could be a lot of things. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[Powerdevil] [Bug 390164] Powerdevil fails to shut off screens
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=390164 --- Comment #8 from Brian T. McKee --- I have not had the problem recently. What ever happened, has cleared itself up probably with an emerge world. Feel free to close this ticket. If it happens again, I'll open it back up. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[Powerdevil] [Bug 390164] Powerdevil fails to shut off screens
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=390164 --- Comment #6 from Brian T. McKee --- There was no video at the time the screen failed to turn off. But I had played videos earlier on reddit and it's possible they crashed for reasons. Like I said earlier, this is not easy to debug because I have little idea how it got into that state. That's why I was hoping there was a way to check it's state through GUI or CLI. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[Powerdevil] [Bug 390164] Powerdevil fails to shut off screens
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=390164 --- Comment #4 from Brian T. McKee --- I don't think there was any video open in any tabs. I didn't get any crash notifications. So I can't really be sure about anything. Is there a way I can check powerdevil to see if it's alive and well? Is there a way to turn it back on? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[Powerdevil] [Bug 390164] Powerdevil fails to shut off screens
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=390164 --- Comment #2 from Brian T. McKee --- Youtube videos embedded in web pages, probably. I get the sense that some of the embedded html5 players and gif players might disable screen saver as well. I've left them playing because circumstance and come back to find the screen not locked. Then when i close the tab, everything goes back to normal. I've actually thought about how to correct something like this, but it's tough because you can't tell if the video crashed before being able to re-enable the screen saver. I guess if you have a timeout, say two hours or something you'll just annoy the user if he's really watching a video for that long. Clearly the screen saver enable code should be in a finally: statement, heh. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[Powerdevil] [Bug 390164] New: Powerdevil fails to shut off screens
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=390164 Bug ID: 390164 Summary: Powerdevil fails to shut off screens Product: Powerdevil Version: 5.11.5 Platform: Gentoo Packages OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: br...@soulspark.org Target Milestone: --- I'm not sure how you'll reproduce this. But it burned my screens over night which is really hard on my hardware. I came in this morning to work to find both displays fully on. I have the screen saver disabled because I prefer to shut off the displays after five minutes of inactivity. For some reason, powerdevil isn't turning off the displays. It may be related to videos disabling screen savers and then crashing. I've seen that before, however I can't be sure about anything. How can I get you more data? What can I check out and report back? Help me, help you. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
