I'd like to add some further information in that switching my windows decoration theme to Breeze has completely stopped the crashes. That's not a very constructive statement Martin and will not make bugs magically disappear. Anyway strange and bizarre, machine put in S2RAM and returned the following day and now Kwin does not crash when Google Earth is loaded. NB no updates were performed in the intervening time.
