[plasmashell] [Bug 360478] Desktop widgets and Folder View icons do not remember their sizes and positions on a per-resolution basis

Lock to the sizes and positions at the time of locking, and not updating
automatically.

> what happens with the icons outside of that upper left quarter?

I was thinking if this was part of the desktop's right-click menu, and you
*wanted* it to update because for example you changed a screen, you'd be able
to easily do `Right click desktop` -> `Lock Widgets` to toggle them to
unlocked, at which point it could automatically resize/rearrange things as
needed.

This is nice, though as you said it is also frustrating that you have to do it
manually - which can be quite annoying if you need to reboot a few times in a
day or something. I also had an issue with it when I used it some time ago that
it just didn't work at one point.

[plasmashell] [Bug 360478] Desktop widgets and Folder View icons do not remember their sizes and positions on a per-resolution basis

2021-08-17 Thread Merritt
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=360478

--- Comment #149 from Merritt  ---
Given that this seems to be a difficult issue to tackle, how about a workaround
for the time being - like `Lock Widgets` ?

We used to have this, though I think it was mostly to prevent the user from
accidentally moving things.. how about one that meant also "Do not let me move
widgets, nor update them automatically" -- then you can `Right click desktop`
-> `Lock Widgets` to toggle it.

A real solution would obviously be preferable, but this seems to me like a much
easier to implement workaround so things don't get moved when doing things like
rebooting / restarting plasma.

Linux/KDE Plasma: 5.4.67-1-MANJARO
KDE Plasma Version: 5.19.5

This is the form many are already used to from searching with things like
Google and would be very nice to support in Dolphin.

Been having the same issue. I have HDMI audio set as default so new streams go
to my TV, but I have a seperate setup to control that volume.

I want my keyboard volume slider to control the (non-default) sink that
connects to the PC speakers.

Seconded, I would like an option to have the 'center' take the height of the
panel or dock into consideration so that my window doesn't end up sitting on
the dock, with a bunch of space on the other side.

I am using the regular stable version of Manjaro KDE.

To confirm it isn't my setup I tried the same thing on another PC that has had
almost no use since the Manjaro install, and it has the same result. Maybe
something weird that Manjaro did on packaging?

Thanks for the info about doing a custom shortcut with flags, that works great.

Would be ideal to have this as a simple toggle in Spectacle settings, seems
much more user friendly that way.

[okular] [Bug 418586] New: Opening cbr files without unrar installed gives a generic error message

2020-03-07 Thread Merritt
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=418586

Bug ID: 418586
   Summary: Opening cbr files without unrar installed gives a
generic error message
   Product: okular
   Version: 1.9.2
  Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Comicbook backend
  Assignee: okular-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: merritt_pub...@outlook.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When opening *.cbr files without unrar installed Okular returns a generic,
unhelpful error message.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a cbr file when the unrar package is not installed on the system

OBSERVED RESULT
Okular makes a loud 'DING!' and provides a generic error:

Error - Okular

Could not open file:///path/to/file.cbr

EXPECTED RESULT
Expected a helpful error message such as:

"This file type requires the unrar package. Please install unrar to view comic
books files."

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Linux 5.4.22-1-MANJARO
KDE Plasma Version: 5.17.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.66.0
Qt Version: 5.14.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
When I tried to open a cbr file I got this error, and searching led me to a
thread with someone who previously had the same issue and a question of "Do you
have unrar installed?" - which I tried and it resolved the issue.

A simple change to the error message would help immensly and be more
user-friendly. Even better would be a button to "Download" that could
automatically search for unrar in the package manager, though I realize that
could be much more difficult if not impossible.

[kwin] [Bug 418015] Add shortcut: move window to corner

2020-02-25 Thread Merritt
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=418015

--- Comment #2 from Merritt  ---
I found what looks like the relevant code section;

```
void Workspace::slotWindowPackLeft()
{
if (active_client && active_client->isMovable())
active_client->packTo(packPositionLeft(active_client,
active_client->frameGeometry().left(), true),
  active_client->y());
}
```

I think even though I am not a programmer I could cobble together a solution
myself from this example with some trial and error, but figuring out the KDE
dev environment & how the git system here works, etc is proving a bit
confusing, the userbase articles and/or github instructions seems to take some
knowledge for granted.

I've been trying to figure out why my screenshots looked weird, finally looked
into it and found it was this capturing shadows thing.

Disabling compositing is a decent workaround for now, but this is my vote for a
proper setting to change this behaviour.

SUMMARY

Feature Request: Add a Global Shortcut for moving windows into the corner of
the display

* * *

Currently I use 'Pack Window' Down/Left/Right/Up to move windows around the
screen, however I often wish to place a window in the corner of the monitor.

Example:
If I want my window in the bottom-left corner, I have to do `Pack Window to the
Left` + `Pack Window Down`. I would much prefer to have a shortcut for
something like `Pack Window Bottom-Left` that I could assign to a single
hotkey.
