[plasmashell] [Bug 444034] New: Plasmashell semi-freeze after and display bugs after a few hours or after sleep/hibernate
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=444034 Bug ID: 444034 Summary: Plasmashell semi-freeze after and display bugs after a few hours or after sleep/hibernate Product: plasmashell Version: 5.21.5 Platform: Manjaro OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: generic-performance Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: n_s_mend...@hotmail.com Target Milestone: 1.0 SUMMARY Since a few weeks, after a few hours of uptime, krunner, my applets (application launcher, notes, folder view, calendar... anything that is on my panels) become super un-responsive, taking between 5 and 10 seconds to answer. Additionaly, my panels resize themselves randomly (I'm using a Unity-like layout, with 2 plasma-panels left and top). STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Boot, log-in, use the computer for internet browsing, music-listening, emails, libre-office. Sometimes Inkscape, QGIS and Tracktion Waveform (non-free DAW). Do this for 1 hour or more. 1 (alternate). Boot, etc. and sleep or hibernate. 2. Invoke an applet on the panels: clicking on the application launcher or hitting "super" key, clicking on some applets on the panels (show desktop, present-windows applet and simple pager applet are NOT affected by this) OBSERVED RESULT The invoked applet immediatly appears, but is unresponsive for a few seconds. Clicking on the desktop or an app to make it disappear doesn't work instantly either. The applet then eventually responds. Searching krunner or the app launcher takes even more time. As I type, letters do not appear instantly but also take seconds, then once the text appears it takes another 10 seconds to display results. Clicking on a result instantly launches apps. Apps themselves are not affected at all. Clicking on folder view, date and time, quick notes and system tray behaves similarly slow. Sometimes, the panels resize a bit, not touching each other anymore. A reboot solves all of this. As well as 'kquitapp5 plasmashell && kstart5 plasmashell' command. EXPECTED RESULT Plasmashell and its components are responsive at boot but also later on. Clicking on it invokes the "Malformed URL error". STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Launch Application launcher or Krunner 2. Search anything, even just one letter 3. Click on the empty result with a gear (or cog) icon. Krunner classifies it in the "Document" category. OBSERVED RESULT A notification from Plasma Workspace appears informing about a Malformed URL. [kde] [Bug 430425] New: Simplify configuration files storage location
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=430425 Bug ID: 430425 Summary: Simplify configuration files storage location Product: kde Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org Reporter: n_s_mend...@hotmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY The ability to configure and tweak plasma to our finest and most precises desires comes at a price: it's not difficult to break things. It is one of plasma's main critiques when it comes to ease of use for newbies. While I don't have a magic solution to this general problem, here is what I suggest to improve one's ability to restore a broken KDE config to its defaults: Change all of plasma desktop configuration's files and folder locations to a unique folder. This folder could then be subdivided with the different apps config files or folder. A discussion took place on that very same topic a few months ago on r/kde https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/g1riaj/whats_preventing_kde_from_containing_all_settings/ Many good arguments were exposed against having a unique configuration file. How about one configuration folder to group them all? (no LOTR pun intended) as some suggest? https://github.com/shalva97/kde-configuration-files groups all of the KDE-related configuration files, which is a great resource. If having one single folder is not feasible, could it be possible to integrate a "reset settings" button in the system settings app? I am no developer, neither do I know much about KDE's desktop internal structure, please enlighten me if what I suggest is out of question. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Change plasma's configuration until the point where something turns out wrongly 2. Try to fix the problem by resetting the initial settings and empty the configuration files 3. Not be able to do it unless you know how to use the CLI and make extensive research on where is which configuration file OBSERVED RESULT KDE stays broken and users often install the system all over again. EXPECTED RESULT KDE's system settings offers a way to reinitialize every configuration file directly linked to the desktop. I am not talking about EVERY KDE app, only those who are related to plasma-desktop strictly. For example, KOrganizer or KMail are not compulsory/necessary to use the plasma desktop. [kwin] [Bug 422569] Destkop effects disabled at login by Latte-Dock
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=422569 --- Comment #2 from Nataniel --- So I made a fresh install about a month ago, and I'm not using latte-dock since. The problem still sometimes appear. [kwin] [Bug 422569] Destkop effects disabled at login by Latte-Dock
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=422569 --- Comment #1 from Nataniel --- UPDATE: It seems it is not related to dock-only blur after all. I disabled background on the dock and I got the problem again at boot. Sorry, it seems the issue doesn't happen ALL the time (I'd say 8/10), and didn't happen when I tried narrowing down the bug. Is there a way to find out where this bug comes from? Willing to help find out ;) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[lattedock] [Bug 422569] New: Destkop effects disabled at login by Latte-Dock

After some tests, I have been able to find out that this "other application" is latte-dock. Furthermore, it only happens when I have background blur enabled on a dock. I use a panel-dock combo, they both have blur but the issue occurs only with the dock (booting with panel only doesn't disable desktop effects). I can successfully restart desktop effects with shift+alt+f12, but it is cumbersome to have to do it everytime. It happens with 0.9.11 stable as well as the "git" version from Manjaro repos (I can't figure which version it is... pamac says r4166.1dcf799d-1) Starting latte AFTER login doesn't trigger the problem. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Login after a boot with background blur on dock 2. That's it 3. If you run Latte with command latte-dock -d > > Do you get any errors when switching activities? > > 2. Which applet separator are you using? 1. Yes I get the same error (to be precise I ran latte-dock --replace -d and changed activities: no error message). I have a few warnings at latte-dock startup though. Do you need them? 2. I'm using 'latte-separator' from the 'get new widgets' menu. I couldn't tell you the version but it's on Manjaro (even though I think the distro doesn't matter when it comes to plasma widget). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
