Sorry, but seems KInfoCenter doesn't provide complete picture, or this picture

desktop in buillt-in display

Usually I work on big screen (NEC with res.: 2560x1440) and closed lid. After I
disconnect my external display and start KDE/Plasma on built in display (res.
1920x1080) I get not scaled correctly gtk windows - to detailed I mean Firefox
(check attached screen shot) which seems to not scaled at all to lower
resolution and for example title bar isn't visible.

SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect external monitor with resolution greater that that placed in build
in display
2. Configure the system to work with closed lid and external monitor as primary
3. Set save recent session
4. Start couple Firefox windows and resize them to size bigger than built in
display.
5. Start konsole and resize it to be 80 rows and 30 rows
6. Turn off PC
7. Disconnect external monitor
8. Start PC
9. Login do KDE/Plasma

OBSERVED RESULT
Firefox windows are too big to fit current display, so title bar isn't visible
Konsole is very small window
(check screen shots)

EXPECTED RESULT
Firefox should be scaled to fit lower screen resolution
Konsole should not be very small (couple cols and couple rows)

  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: piotr.mierzwin...@gmail.com
CC: sit...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

In my humble opinion information in hardware is not completed. I cannot find
out here all general information.
I think most systems has more parts than only processor, RAM and graphics card,
so would be nice to put here also info about
1. my display(s) - at least manufacturer and resolution
To find out I need to run additional application - System Settings -> Display
Information
2. local (not network) storage(s)
To find out I need to run additional application - System Monitor (here I can
find info about: Memory, Disc, CPU, Network but not about display)
To get full information about my hardware I need to jump between couple
applications, which for sure this is not comfortable.

Second thing is wasting space. I mean information about laptop.
Now there is split manufacturer, model (calling here "System Version" which IMO
is not intuitive, and better would be just "model") and "Product Name" 3 lines.
I wonder why? Isn't would be better just put all in one line (and alternatively
show tool tip for each part after mouse over it), for example:
LENOVO, ThinkPad T480 (20L50003PB)

Third thing is the order.
Why more general information about my hardware like manufacturer, model is
placed as last and as first I can see info about CPU? Isn't more intuitive to
put these information in opposite way?
for example:
My PC: LENOVO, ThinkPad T480 (20L50003PB)
Processors: ...
Memory: ...
Graphics Processor: ...
Display: ...
Audio Processor: ...
Storage: ...

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1.Start "Info Center"
2. Open "About this System"
3.

OBSERVED RESULT
Missing several information about hardware in one place

EXPECTED RESULT
All general information about hardware should be placed in one place.
Card is calling "About this System" and I get limited information about
hardware.

[kwin] [Bug 15329] Save and remember positions of all windows

2024-02-29 Thread Piotr Mierzwinski
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15329

I case of restore Plasma session if you use one monitor then all windows are
placed in the middle of screen on the stack. IMO, this is not so elegant and
convenient, because user after that need to/usually want rearrange/place them
in way like were placed in previous session.

About save position.
I think setting rules to given window to save its position would be saved isn't
easy for regular user. In my opinion easiest would be put option into window's
properties. I mean icon at the left top corner if window and its menu, where is
placed entry "More options" and here "Move", "Resize", "Full Screen", e.t.c..
And here would be good to put here option like "Save my position".

Recently I didn't meet issue I reported, only I meet some lags in response of
KDE/Plasma application like very long time waiting for KMail settings window
(~5 sec.) or when I click very at the first time into Kicker I need to wait
couple seconds to get its window.
As I mentioned I use HDD, so maybe this is the cause.

And forgot to mention. My Plasma Style is "ROUNDED COLOR". As far as I remember
this style follows by color scheme (at least in Plasma 5). And that's why I
installed it some time ago and used long time starting Plasma 5.
Before Plasma 6.1 the color of Dolphin icon placed in TaskBar was as I
expected. So for me it looks like regression and that's why reported this.. I
didn't change icon of Dolphin. So maybe any update changed this.

In dark mode contrast (between text and background) is not verified fpr good
visiblility and what user has set is presented, even isn't this good
combination. In result if the user chooses the color not carefully then result
not always will be as he expected - usually visibility of text will be bad.
Similar case we can find in Spectacle, after we save screenshot we see
something like "The screenshot was saved as ", where is barely
visible.

I only switched by Alt+Tab (quick, without hold this shortcut) and had not any
window as fullsceen, also video wasn't full screen mode.
Resources were not yet fully utilized. And IMHO "high system resource
utilization" should not lead to Plasma freezing.

Today I switched between KMail and Konsole and didn't observe such effect. The
same when I switched Firefox (this site opened) and konsole. Similar Konsole
and Dolphin. (memory utilization ~47%)

BTW. I'm not sure why widget of "task switcher" is always showing, even I press
shortcut very quickly. I think this slowdown task switching. I would expect to
see it only when I invoke shortcut and hold Alt key. Now pressing Tab I can
switch to other, visible as thumbnail, window.

[plasmashell] [Bug 479781] New: Switching between windows is slow in some cases

2024-01-13 Thread Piotr Mierzwinski
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=479781

Bug ID: 479781
Summary: Switching between windows is slow in some cases
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: piotr.mierzwin...@gmail.com
CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
Recently I experienced freezing of Plasma after several switching of windows. I
have not to say that it was very frustrating and annoying. It happened twice at
one day.
I started konsole with two tabs.
I started Firefox with many opened tabs (20-30) with YouTube partially playing
and paused them. In one moment I one of them was playing and I switched by
Alt+Tab (quick, so without showing widget with thumbnails). Memory utilized in
~50-60%.
I observed that switching started work slow (1 sec.and more wait between
presented the window - to be used), and after one of the switching Plasma just
freeze. Even no mouse cursor was present in the screen. To back to work I could
only restart sddm or PC by text terminal (after Ctrl+Alt+F4).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start konsole and open 2 tabs (on with mc)
2. Start Firefox with 20-30 tabs with paused video, i.e. YouTube
3. Play one video and start to quick switching between Firefox and konsole

OBSERVED RESULT
slow switching, and in some cases freezing of Plasma

EXPECTED RESULT
switching should work fast, and for sure Plasma should not freeze in result of
it

SUMMARY
I use laptop with external monitor (27"). I don't use built in monitor, because
usually I have lid closed. Unfortunately Display Configuration shows parameters
for this not used monitor, but in the picture I can see my external monitor
(not enabled - maybe this is the issue). After I click onto picture I get
configuration of external monitor.
Please look at the attached screen shots.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect to your laptop external monitor
2. Configure to use external monitor with closed lid
3. restart/relogin
4. open Display Configuration in System Settings

[plasmashell] [Bug 479009] New: After switch screen to lower resolution, opened windows size and position is not adjusted new resolution

2023-12-25 Thread Piotr Mierzwinski
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=479009

Bug ID: 479009
Summary: After switch screen to lower resolution, opened
windows size and position is not adjusted new
resolution
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.91.0
  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: piotr.mierzwin...@gmail.com
CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
Usually I work with external monitor (and lid closed) with resolution 2560x1440
(27"), but from time to time I turn on my laptop without external monitor, so I
get lower resolution like 1920x1080.
I often have 3 Firefox windows (resized max vertically and horizontally wider
than resolution in my laptop) open when working with an external monitor.
The problem is that when I start Firefox working on laptop all windows are
placed such that title bar and left side are moved outside the screen (their
left corners), so neither cannot resize it nor move them dragging by title bar.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. connect external monitor with resolution higher than such in laptop
2. close the lid (work only with external monitor)
3. open 3 Firefox windows (in external monitor)
4. resize them (more than resolution in laptop)
5. close the system
6. disconnect external monitor
7. start the system
8. start Firefox

OBSERVED RESULT
Left top part of all windows are moved outside the screen.

EXPECTED RESULT
All windows should be down scaled, such they were adjusted to new (lower)
resolution.

Seems issue fixed.
This time I didn't get black screen with mouse cursor only I saw background of
screenlocker. After I move mouse cursor before 5 seconds have passed I'm able
to back to my desktop. When I wait more I get field where I can enter password
to unlock the screen.
Therefore all is fine.

Today magically autologin started work.
One thing I have done was cleaning directory /etc/sddm.conf.d where was placed
couple files, so:

$ ls -l
total 20
-rw-r--r-- 1 piotr piotr 275 nov 20 19:09 kde_settings.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 161 may 25 2023 kde_settings.conf.bak

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 309 may 26 2023 kde_settings.conf.wayland_autologin

I left only kde_settings.conf. I made update and turned off my PC. Late evening
turned on and turned out that I was able to login without password. Even login
screen changed to the "breeze".

I don't know if this was result my cleaning or update helped. Anyway I'm going
to close this bug report.

Had no tried. Only I removed almost all from directory /var/lib/sddm. I left

Using above configuration I get login screen.

And this is not Breeze stated in configuration, only one I set long time ago,
and which actually doesn't work because it was dedicated for Plasma 5. It looks
similar like one in post here (OpenMandriva forum):

I'm happy you were able to reproduce the issue. Big thanks for your effort.
So now there is need to find out the reason of this and of course solve it.

As I said I get default login screen.
Completing the information. Here I can select Wayland and login into it. The
issue is that autologin to Wayland session configured long time ago stopped
work. BTW. I did it manually in sddm config file and long time was working
well.
Second problem is that in System Setting is not possible to set session Wayland
for autologin - after apply always back to Plasma (X11).
Neon Unstable I installed, more or less when started development Plasma 6, and
I try to update it daily.

Maybe this is the problem latest version of sddm?

So do you want I would did such test - would open lid and close it?

Bug ID: 477073
Summary: Automatically login with Wayland session stopped work
couple days (maybe week) ago
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: piotr.mierzwin...@gmail.com
CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
As in subject. Instead of this I get login screen, which also I cannot change
(after enter password it returns to old one).
Additionally I cannot set automatically login with Wayland session in System
Settings. When I open "Login screen (SDDM( -> Behavior " I can see set session
"Plasma (X11)", but I use Wayland.
After I change to Wayland and enter the password it switches (in combobox) to
Plasma (X11) again.

I had this have set several months ago and recently stopped work.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start System Settings
2. Login screen (SDDM( -> Behavior
3. Set session Wayland
4. Press Apply

OBSERVED RESULT
In result of start Plasma I can see login screen.
Switch to Wayland doesn't work in System Settings.

EXPECTED RESULT
Should be able to automatically login with Wayland session, as it happens some
time ago.

Sorry, is there anybody who is able to reproduce this issue?
I face with this any time when I only want to use synaptic or vlc or Opera (one
accidentally click and all session crashed). This doesn't happen in X11
session. I tested in xfce4.

Maybe this problem happens only in Neon Unstable Edition, but in Fedora all
works well. I'm not able to test this in Fedora.

course there was mouse cursor. Switching didn't help, even restart of sddm
didn't. Plugging off cord from monitor and plug in again didn't help. I needed
to restart my PC.

Such switching doesn't help, even restart of sddm (sudo killall sddm).

> Does this also happen when you manually lock, and wait for 60 seconds for

When I did this my monitor just hang (no any reaction on power button) to
unhung it I needed to plug off power cord and plug it again. In result I saw
lock screen and could login normally.

I didn't mention this earlier, by my monitor is connected via USB Type C hub by
HDMI connector.
My monitor is NEC EA275WMi (the buttons it has are touch sensitive, not
physical so this maybe was the cause I could not turn it off).

And I remind. The issue happens in normal session. After waiting time my screen
getting black (and turns off). I was moving my mouse instantly to back to
session. In result by fraction of a second I can see background of lock screen,
after that the screen turns black with visible mouse cursor, which I can move.

BTW. I tried back to normal session by switching to text terminal, killing sddm
and go to TTY with sddm again. I got login screen, but in result of login my
monitor just hung (details I described this on begin this post).

This behavior I observe since couple weeks (lock screen I tested today). Let me
know if you need any additional information about my hardware or configuration
of KDE/Plasma.

BTW. I reported similar issue: 475632 where monitor turns off in moment of
login to plasma session.

I didn't.
For sure this is not result of suspending. In my profile of Energy Saving is
set "Do nothing" in case of suspending (check attached screenshot). I use daily
profile "On AC Power". In moment of black screen I can see mouse cursor which I
can move.

SUMMARY
Since couple days I experience very annoying issue, shortly described below.
Lockscreen (triggered after N minutes of inactivity) shows black screen and I
cannot back to normal / unlock the screen. At least I don't know how to back to
normal and don't know any workaround. I can see black screen and can move mouse
cursor. BTW. Alt+F2 doesn't work. My solution is only restart of PC, which is
very annoying.

My settings are as following:
Lock screen automatically After: 5 minutes
Allow unlocking without password: 5 seconds

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Login to plasma
2. Do nothing couple minutes
3. After lock screen is involving immediately move the mouse

OBSERVED RESULT
Black screen with mouse cursor

EXPECTED RESULT
Back to normal screen, because the try of unlocking happened before 5 sec.
