Hey d_ed,

Here's the whole systemsettings window. If this is a Manjaro creation, just let
me know. Close this out and I'll file it for them instead.

[systemsettings] [Bug 406421] New: Unnecessary timezone features?

2019-04-10 Thread Scott Harvey
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=406421

Bug ID: 406421
   Summary: Unnecessary timezone features?
   Product: systemsettings
   Version: 5.15.1
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcm_clock

KCM as seen

SUMMARY
- Why do we bother showing these three checked bullet points for the current
timezone? They seem somewhat unnecessary (we can safely assume the user is
familiar with their own timezone). If there's a mandate to keep them, I think
they need a little smoother language/translation.

Looks like the .svg icon file got messed up somehow.

[policykit-kde-agent-1] [Bug 398651] Drop down to select an user account is vertically bigger than normal

2018-09-25 Thread Scott Harvey
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=398651

The combobox appears to be expanding into the space reserved for the AuthDialog
(?) that magically appears in the center of the dialog when the password is
incorrect. That's always struck me as a very odd visual design.

(I know I didn't work on this before, because it's a PITA and I would have
remembered.)

I had set up a task - https://phabricator.kde.org/T8569 - where I expected
people to discuss redesigning this dialog. There were plenty of redesign/reword
comments in an unrelated patch, but this Task went nowhere.

Can we pick it up again and see if there's a better visual solution? The way
the dialog is built now would require tearing it apart to stop this glitch.

Konsole segfaults during logout. Error-reporting window remains on screen, but
cannot be used as mouse and keyboard have already been shut down. It locks up
the logout process and a power cycle is the only option.

Unfortunately, I can't reproduce it at will. If there are any possible
conditions (memory usage? Konsole debug just before logout?) that might cause
it, I'm glad to experiment.

This might be a useless report, but it happens often enough that I consider it
a problem.

Since a recent update (within the last 24-48 hours), my arrow keys are
malfunctioning. The Down arrow key disables the touchpad (complete with OSD) -
in Konsole, trying to go down the list in krunner, trying to go down browser
address bar history... it's a mess. I had to carefully go into System Settings
and set a hotkey to turn the trackpad back on - the laptop's Trackpad toggle
key (Fn-F7) does not work.

Note that this only affects the 4-way arrow keys. The arrow keys on the numpad
are unaffected.

I'm not clear on what you'd prefer to see.

Do you want one big block of icons with no separators at all? For example, if
all the "C" applications ends in the middle of a row, just begin listing "D"
applications?

It's a unique request; I'm not sure how many other users would like it, to be
honest.

Give us some details, or ideally use a simple drawing program to make a very
simple mockup and attach it here.

The small size (16x16) is actually a scaled-down version of the medium size
(22x22) icon. Breeze doesn't currently have a 16x16 "calendar" icon. It
probably wasn't feasible to draw a calendar at only 16x16px.

So I think this is filed under "intentional behavior".

Trying to install Inkscape. Click "Install"... long pause... finally prompted

again, same result.

Here's the console output from running Discover from a terminal. I think I see

[systemsettings] [Bug 395048] Digital Clock Widget does not follow specific formats set in Detailed Settings

I can partially confirm this. I set all my formats to the same as you. My
digital clock gets the date right - 10/06/18 - but the 12h/24h time is wrong.
Wrong, but fixable.

Right-click the digital clock widget and choose "Digital Clock Settings", then
look at the "Appearance" tab.

The 12h/24h clock display is being controlled by the "Use 24-hour Clock"
checkbox. The checkbox doesn't "obey" the locale setting. If you tick the box,
you'll get times like 16:07 instead of 04:07PM.

I'll have a look at the code and see if I can resolve this.

There's an option in the icon-only task manager called "Highlight Windows".
It's turned off by default. Enabling it gives the effect shown in this video.
The transparency effects are my own settings.

Git commit cd7252e9fa0722c912f93595100d540d2842ed12 by Scott Harvey.
Committed on 26/05/2018 at 03:19.
Pushed by sharvey into branch 'master'.

Add second line of text for KickerDash item descriptions

Summary:
Adds a second line of text under icon/doc icons for more clarity.
Will stop at two lines; if text continues, it will be elided.

Test Plan:
- Install Application Dashboard, identify a one-line elided item
- Apply patch and compile
- Check that item text is now two lines but does not overlap next row

Various clocks, same calendar error

There appears to be a bug in org.plasma.component.calendar that highlights the
wrong day for "today". It's a day behind. I tried it in every clock plasmoid
that displays a calendar and got the same incorrect result. They all use the
same library. I also checked `hwclock` on my machine and it's accurate.

Git commit 19712a1d22b2b4055a0ff39bf57fa2fdd41388f3 by Scott Harvey.
Committed on 09/05/2018 at 15:00.
Pushed by sharvey into branch 'master'.

Enlarge default window size. Use (adjusted) calculation in `SizeHint` to
determine minimum window width.

Summary:
Call `setMinimumSize()` at each run to enforce a minimum size. Any enlarged
size will be saved and restored via the customary method of saving window
geometry.

Test Plan:
- Compile systemsettings with patch
- Launch system settings (systemsettings5)
- Determine that window opens at an appropriate size.
- Close System Settings and reopen; ensure size remains set

To test small or rotated screen sizes:
- Adjust display resolution to a size smaller than the standard target of
1024x700
- System settings window should launch with a margin on all sides (not
monopolize entire screen space)

Unlock screen icon

The icons to change users are inconsistent between the normal session login
screen and the unlock screen. The titles are also inconsistent. Shouldn't they
be the same?

Personally, I prefer the "avatar with arrow" version from the lock screen, as
opposed to the magnifying glass on the login screen. A magnifying glass icon is
most often used for a search function; it's got no relationship to changing
users.

Hm, I can't reproduce this on Kubuntu 18.04b1 or Neon Dev.

I'm trying to recreate by:

- Activating "Split" in the Dolphin window
- Selecting "root" or some other non-user directory in one window, and my $HOME
dir in the other
- Drag-n-drop a folder or file
- For a file, I get a dialog saying the file could not be created
- For a folder, I get a red bar across the top of the destination that says the
folder could not be created.

Please explain your workflow in a bit more detail and I'll try some more. If
you can include a couple screenshots (or even a screencap video), it'll make it
easier to try reproducing - and fixing!

Thanks.

I'm always open to being onboarded, but would like to clarify a few things
before bumbling around in the KWin code.

I think I understand this correctly... `skipTaskbar` and `skipPager` are
essentially just flags (in `NET::State`) that can be set on a window. Adding
`skipSwitcher` requires adding another available flag, more or less. KWin
itself doesn't directly act on these flags, but makes them available to other
applications. In other words, KWin doesn't control what shows up in a pager or
a switcher or a taskbar - it just reports which windows are eligible, according
to which `state` flags are set. It's up to the pager/switcher/taskbar to show
only the correctly-flagged windows.

Do I understand that correctly?

I apologize if this question is elementary to any of you. The internals of a
windowing system are new to me. I'm eager to help out (as always), but I'm also
not in the habit of wasting people's time with guesswork submissions.

Thanks.

Fresh installation of openSUSE Tumbleweed (Krypton) - cannot install any

- Click "install"
- Enter root password

- App listing refreshes with "Install" still available
- No application installed or added to launcher
- Repeatable

Installation through YaST automatically selects missing dependencies (is this
the problem?) and installs the application.

Hm, this might be a bit more complicated than I first thought. You can also
cause the same problem in the regular file view.

Set the view to "Compact" (icon & 1 row of text) mode, and slide the icon-size
slider all the way to minimum. Bump up your text size if necessary, and you'll
see the same top-aligned icon. I'll add another screenshot.

It looks like the "Places" panel uses the same list-display library as the main
file view window.

In other words, I have to be excruciatingly careful with any changes I make.
Breaking all of Dolphin would probably be frowned upon.

I can retract this portion, now that klaunchrc is being updated. KWin appears
to catch it and make a change. Although "blink" doesn't seem to blink - it's
static instead, at least on my system. I *can* change from "none" to "bounce"

The problem appears to run deeper than a non-saving dialog. The bouncing cursor
doesn't seem to obey what's set in $HOME/.config/klaunchrc, even if set
manually (which I did).

No matter what values are in klaunchrc, the cursor still shows a bouncing icon.

In the screencast, you can see that I've manually changed the values to get "No
Feedback" as the active option. But when I launch Handbrake (which takes long
enough to start), I still get a bouncing icon cursor.

Input, please?

There's already code in Spectacle to add a slight delay (200msec) when
compositing is enabled, allowing enough time for the window to hide itself. I'm
not sure how we could increase this accurately to account for various KWin
effects. I get a similar "ghost" effect when launching Spectacle and using
KWin's "Glide" effect. Since KWin behavior scripts can be written by anyone and
freely shared, there's an infinite number of potential delays and transition
effects possible.

As for the bouncing icon, that's part of Plasma's "Application Launch Feedback"
effects. I believe it bounces until the application window appears.

(I attempted to turn this off as well, but there appears to be a bug where the
setting does not save. I filed that as Bug 392050.)

I don't know how this could be handled effectively. We shouldn't expect users
to disable all their graphical effects to take effective screenshots, but I
can't see how we'd enable a large enough delay without affecting Spectacle's
(perceived) performance.

[neon] [Bug 391828] New: Include GCC-7/G++-7 in Developer Edition

2018-03-13 Thread Scott Harvey
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=391828

Bug ID: 391828
Summary: Include GCC-7/G++-7 in Developer Edition
   Product: neon
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Packages Dev Edition [unstable]
  Assignee: neon-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: bund...@gmail.com
CC: j...@jriddell.org, neon-b...@kde.org, sit...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

Please consider including GCC-7/G++-7 in the neon Developer Edition, since it's
what the KDE apps are being built with. Even though it's not officially
packaged for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, it can be downloaded and successfully used from
the following PPA:

https://launchpad.net/~jonathonf/+archive/ubuntu/gcc-7.3

It doesn't necessarily need to be set as the default, but having it loaded
would be handy. Otherwise, we're using GCC/G++ 5.4.0, from 2016. These will
compile the KDE apps fine, but won't generate the same compiler warnings as
Jenkins (or the senior developers we newcomers are trying to assist).

It's a wishlist item. I've already got my compilers upgraded. Just putting the
idea out there for consideration.

[Discover] [Bug 390427] Unknown Open Collaboration Service API error when clicking on addons in Discover

--- Comment #4 from Scott Harvey <bund...@gmail.com> ---
This same "Unknown Open Collaboration Error" code 103 occurs in Discover and
any of the "Get New " items from System Settings. I presume it's caused by
packages that aren't Plasma 5 compatible. As a new (but enthusiastic) KDE user,
I'm intrigued by all the available eye candy. Ideally, themes, icon packs,
etc., that aren't Plasma 5 compatible would be filtered out. It's a bummer to
see some item that's 5-star rated only to get a cryptic error. Or to check it
out on store.kde.org and see that it's 9 years old. If I could help fix this, I
gladly would.

[plasmashell] [Bug 391145] Window list (as a desktop widget) shows a pin icon on the top right corner

Can you grab a screenshot of how far you're stretching it open? I'm not seeing
the pin except in the expanded (clicked) view.

[plasmashell] [Bug 390864] Notifications have cropped images

--- Comment #6 from Scott Harvey <bund...@gmail.com> ---
I'll take a look at dynamically sizing the notification popup and/or image area
based on the size of the capture. I personally feel that the whole image should
be shown; otherwise it gives the impression that the screengrab was inaccurate
or incomplete.

[Spectacle] [Bug 390961] Add option to keep Spectacle open after "discard"

2018-02-23 Thread Scott Harvey

--- Comment #6 from Scott Harvey <bund...@gmail.com> ---
I'm familiar with it. I even have a Phabricator account and one completed patch
under my belt. I may be new around here, but I'm hooked.
