[policykit-kde-agent-1] [Bug 398651] Drop down to select an user account is vertically bigger than normal
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=398651 --- Comment #6 from Scott Harvey --- The combobox appears to be expanding into the space reserved for the AuthDialog (?) that magically appears in the center of the dialog when the password is incorrect. That's always struck me as a very odd visual design. (I know I didn't work on this before, because it's a PITA and I would have remembered.) I had set up a task - https://phabricator.kde.org/T8569 - where I expected people to discuss redesigning this dialog. There were plenty of redesign/reword comments in an unrelated patch, but this Task went nowhere. Can we pick it up again and see if there's a better visual solution? The way the dialog is built now would require tearing it apart to stop this glitch. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Committed on 09/05/2018 at 15:00. Pushed by sharvey into branch 'master'. Enlarge default window size. Use (adjusted) calculation in `SizeHint` to determine minimum window width. Summary: Call `setMinimumSize()` at each run to enforce a minimum size. Any enlarged size will be saved and restored via the customary method of saving window geometry. Test Plan: - Compile systemsettings with patch - Launch system settings (systemsettings5) - Determine that window opens at an appropriate size. - Close System Settings and reopen; ensure size remains set To test small or rotated screen sizes: - Adjust display resolution to a size smaller than the standard target of 1024x700 - System settings window should launch with a margin on all sides (not monopolize entire screen space) Reviewers: ngraham, mart, davidedmundson, hein, #plasma Reviewed By: ngraham, davidedmundson, hein, #plasma Subscribers: davidedmundson, cfeck, zzag, plasma-devel Tags: #plasma Differential Revision: https://phabricator.kde.org/D12252 M +8-3app/SettingsBase.cpp https://commits.kde.org/systemsettings/19712a1d22b2b4055a0ff39bf57fa2fdd41388f3 -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

I think exposing SkipSwitcher in the API makes > sense. I also think this makes an excellent "my first kwayland/kwin patch" > Junior Job, since it's basically just taking a look at how the other Skip* > stuff works and doing the same. Could be a nice way to onboard a new > contributor. I'm always open to being onboarded, but would like to clarify a few things before bumbling around in the KWin code. I think I understand this correctly... `skipTaskbar` and `skipPager` are essentially just flags (in `NET::State`) that can be set on a window. Adding `skipSwitcher` requires adding another available flag, more or less. KWin itself doesn't directly act on these flags, but makes them available to other applications. In other words, KWin doesn't control what shows up in a pager or a switcher or a taskbar - it just reports which windows are eligible, according to which `state` flags are set. It's up to the pager/switcher/taskbar to show only the correctly-flagged windows. Do I understand that correctly? I apologize if this question is elementary to any of you. The internals of a windowing system are new to me. I'm eager to help out (as always), but I'm also not in the habit of wasting people's time with guesswork submissions. A simple restart of > > plasmashell isn't sufficient. > > That means KWin isn't watching launchrc for changes. I can retract this portion, now that klaunchrc is being updated. KWin appears to catch it and make a change. Although "blink" doesn't seem to blink - it's static instead, at least on my system. I *can* change from "none" to "bounce" and KWin correctly makes the change. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[systemsettings] [Bug 392050] Applications > Launch Feedback > Cursor: effect does not save when changed
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=392050 --- Comment #6 from Scott Harvey <bund...@gmail.com> --- The problem appears to run deeper than a non-saving dialog. The bouncing cursor doesn't seem to obey what's set in $HOME/.config/klaunchrc, even if set manually (which I did). No matter what values are in klaunchrc, the cursor still shows a bouncing icon. In the screencast, you can see that I've manually changed the values to get "No Feedback" as the active option. But when I launch Handbrake (which takes long enough to start), I still get a bouncing icon cursor. Input, please? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[Spectacle] [Bug 391183] When Spectacle is invoked from its pinned Task Manager icon's context menu and the Fade effect is active, a half-faded version of the context menu appears in the screenshot
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=391183 Scott Harvey <bund...@gmail.com> changed: What|Removed |Added CC||bund...@gmail.com --- Comment #8 from Scott Harvey <bund...@gmail.com> --- There's already code in Spectacle to add a slight delay (200msec) when compositing is enabled, allowing enough time for the window to hide itself. I'm not sure how we could increase this accurately to account for various KWin effects. I get a similar "ghost" effect when launching Spectacle and using KWin's "Glide" effect. Since KWin behavior scripts can be written by anyone and freely shared, there's an infinite number of potential delays and transition effects possible. As for the bouncing icon, that's part of Plasma's "Application Launch Feedback" effects. I believe it bounces until the application window appears. (I attempted to turn this off as well, but there appears to be a bug where the setting does not save. I filed that as Bug 392050.) I don't know how this could be handled effectively. We shouldn't expect users to disable all their graphical effects to take effective screenshots, but I can't see how we'd enable a large enough delay without affecting Spectacle's (perceived) performance. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Even though it's not officially packaged for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, it can be downloaded and successfully used from the following PPA: https://launchpad.net/~jonathonf/+archive/ubuntu/gcc-7.3 It doesn't necessarily need to be set as the default, but having it loaded would be handy. Otherwise, we're using GCC/G++ 5.4.0, from 2016. These will compile the KDE apps fine, but won't generate the same compiler warnings as Jenkins (or the senior developers we newcomers are trying to assist). It's a wishlist item. [Discover] [Bug 390427] Unknown Open Collaboration Service API error when clicking on addons in Discover

I presume it's caused by packages that aren't Plasma 5 compatible. As a new (but enthusiastic) KDE user, I'm intrigued by all the available eye candy. Ideally, themes, icon packs, etc., that aren't Plasma 5 compatible would be filtered out. It's a bummer to see some item that's 5-star rated only to get a cryptic error.
