[okular] [Bug 483968] New: Okular now moves the starting point of the text selection region when I position my cursor before the original starting point.

2024-03-18 Thread Sishun Liu

Bug ID: 483968
Summary: Okular now moves the starting point of the text
selection region when I position my cursor before the
original starting point.
Classification: Applications
   Product: okular
   Version: 24.02.0
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: okular-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: liusish...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

When I use the text selection tool to select text in a PDF file, Okular lets
the starting point instead of the end point of the text selection region follow
my cursor when the cursor is located before the original starting point. I
don't think it is an intended behavior because it is super confusing and
unintuitive.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a pdf file in Okular.
2. Use the official text selection tool to select something.

OBSERVED RESULT
The starting point of the text selection region follow the cursor when it is
located before the original starting point.

EXPECTED RESULT
The starting point should be fixed during the text selection operation.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Okular Version: 24.02.0
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.0.0
Qt Version: 6.6.2

Unfortunately, I still encountered this issue this morning on plasma 6.0.2. But
the backtrace looks completely different. It does not include
KScreen::WaylandConfig::setupRegistry() anymore. So maybe I have trigger
another bug. I will provide more info after I catch more crashes.

I also encountered the similar problem on my Arch system. Plasmashell crashed
and immediately restored itself almost every time when I wake up my external
display. I got the backtrace of three crashes. All of them also involve
KScreen::WaylandConfig::setupRegistry(). Is the bug 480835 still popping up in
the stable release?

Bug ID: 482277
Summary: Plasma/KWin behaviors weird, even crashes when waking
up an 4K external display.
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.27.10
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: compositing

journald log of the kwin crash.

SUMMARY

Almost every time I wake up my external 4K display, I can immediately see a lot
of glitched windows, and the system is temporarily unresponsive. Most times,
plasma can sooner restore everything so I can continue working. But, sometimes
the plasma can not restore. It crashed and all the windows already opened are
gone. Sometimes, both kwin and plasma do not survive, and my system sends me
back to sddm login screen.

I have attached the journald log and backtrace of one recent kwin crash and two
backtraces of plsama crashes which happened several days ago.

This problem has bugged me for at least 5 months, and after searching for a
long time I still don't understand what has happened.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Wait for the display to automatically switch off.
2. Use the mouse to wake up the display.

OBSERVED RESULT
A lot of glitches, sometimes the desktop and the compositor crashes.

EXPECTED RESULT
Plasma should work without any glitches and crashes.
