I just figured out what was going on. Everything is fine. I had changed the
main.xml in my spec file and failed to update for the 5.25.x series. I will
mark this as not a bug and check myself into the loony bin for further
evaluation. :P

I did not mean to be insulting. I was just being a silly goose so don't take it
as such. Thanks.

The applications launch correctly from the application menu launcher but
nothing appears on the taskbar. This is in an X11 session. Do you not see the
same thing?

[plasmashell] [Bug 456989] New: Icons-Only Task Manager broke like a KDE developer

2022-07-21 Thread Texstar
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456989

Bug ID: 456989
Summary: Icons-Only Task Manager broke like a KDE developer
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.25.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
Component: Task Manager and Icons-Only Task Manager
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: texs...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
***
The taskmanager applet in the plasma-desktop tarball is broke in 5.25.x series
specifically the icons-only taskmanager. Launch an App and nothing appears on
the taskbar. Tested on the latest Neon ISO. I backed downed the taskmanager
applet from the 5.24.5 version to fix in PCLinuxOS. It appears someone did a
complete rewrite of this applet and jacked it up in the plasma-desktop tarball.
This is probably a duplicate report.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set taskmanager to icons-only
2. Launch an app
3. Observe nothing on the taskbar

OBSERVED RESULT
Nothing appears on the taskbar after launching an application

EXPECTED RESULT
Expected to see an Icon on the taskbar of the launched application

If nobody else has this issue then it must be ours to fix. I am the maintainer
of the packages. There are no patches regarding this tarball. Not sure if this
is related but if selecting Appearance then going back to All Settings causes
the apply/cancel popup button to appear then clicking Apply crashes
systemsettings. Also Quicksettings is missing in the menu. Backing this package
down to 5.21.5 restores proper function.

Found that systemsettings crash on some Intel systems that use the Intel Video
driver! If the user switches to modesetting then systemsettings work as
intended. It is not in systemsetting either as I backed the package down to
5.17.5 and it still crashed. I cannot provide a backtrace so I guess if you
can't duplicate it then it will stay as is... broken.

OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Task Manager
  Assignee: h...@kde.org

Mouse is too grabby when clicking on an application running in the task manager
and tries to drag it to the desktop. Needs more cowbell, I mean more delay.
System Settings -> mouse settings are ineffective in changing behavior.

P.S. Plasma is awesome!

Reproducible: Always

Still the same with Frameworks 5.21.0. Here is a quick video on how to make it
crash. It is when the menu is expanded twice out then the pointer is moved to
the main menu entry.

This also happens on PCLinuxOS and seems to happen more often when using the
3rd Menu option ->Application Menu.

In fact this is the only Plasma crash we've experienced so great job KDE
developers!!!
