[kdenlive] [Bug 347347] change height of individual tracks

2016-10-22 Thread Wegwerf via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=347347

If this is low hanging fruit then I will be absolutely positively surprised.
This will need refactoring of a lot of code that today assumes that all tracks
have the same height. A quick glance some time ago showed me that this needs to
touch a lot of code, but it would surely worth the work. What needs to be done
is to factor our any scattered code that works in the timeline using the scene
coordinates, especially Y axis, and then unify this through two functions, such
as getTrackTopY(t) and getTrackBottomY(t). The main work is to find all the
places where need to use these new functions, and this includes all timeline
operations.

Just to be on the safe side: do you mean that for a 25fps project the timecode
00:00:00:24 is followed by 00:00:01:00? (24fps: 00:00:00:23 --> 00:00:01:00) If
this is what you refer to, then there's a misunderstanding regarding the
timecode fields; the timecode format is hh:mm:ss:ff, where ff are frames, not
seconds, and not fractions of a second.

I think this is a misunderstanding. You can't change the length of a title clip
in the project bin and then expect all timeline clip instances to change

internally managed length which you cannkot change.

@Vincent: should we better hide the master clip length indication in the

   Product: kdenlive
   Version: 16.08.0
  Platform: Compiled Sources
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal

 Component: User Interface

currently is not available from the dialog for the vid.stab clip job, and its
effect cannot be reached using the existing dialog parameters. Please add a new
checkbox "virtual tripod" that enables the corresponding option.

I know that this has been an issue for some time. As I just tested it on my

My proxy profile "MPEG" says this:
-s 640x480 -g 5 -qscale 6 -ab 128k -vcodec mpeg2video -acodec mp2

Which looks like 4:3, but upon enabling the proxy, it correcty shows in 16:9
... can you please make sure you don't have any stale proxies laying around by
purging them in your project?

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=368801

Hi Evert, thanky for your reply. It helps me to better understand the issue.

My (limited) understanding is that vid.stab uses ffmpeg for decoding the
unstabilized video, and then ffmpeg again for encoding the stabilized result
video. But ffmpeg can't handle MLT files as it doesn't understand them. MLT
sits on top of ffmpeg, but ffmpeg doesn't know about MLT.

One way might be to first transcode from MLT to some video format that vid.stab
and ffmpeg can reread later when running the stabilization.

More testing reveals that resizing the clip helps, but only if I resize the
clip a lot by dragging the end of the clip, then resize it back to its original
size. Next, some "careful research" shows that I need to resize the image clip
beyond its current length. When loading, you can see the length of the title
clip to be 00:00:12:05. The timeline clip instance starts at position
00:00:03:08 and has a length of 00:00:06:00, giving a total(!) length=end of
00:00:09:08. Now, resize the clip in the timeline only one or two seconds:
doesn't change the incorrect blurring.

Next, resize beyond a right end of 00:00:12:05, that is, a timeline clip length
of around 00:00:12:08. Now the animation gets correctly updated, so scrubbing
the timeline shows the proper blur ramp-down.

understand your sentiment. In order to track down such timeline corruption
issues, we need a (minimized) example project, together with a concise

As for the Affine transition: a quick poll in our G+ community

16% out of 31 Kdenlive users use Affine on a regular basis as their most-used

This issue is still present with recent git master: loading the example project

correctly. But the ramp-down at the end doesn't work at all. All attempts at
editing, changing, removing, and readding the corresponding keyframes does not
yield any sensible result, as far as the final keyframe is concerned. The last
but one keyframe behaves correctly, though.

Cannot reproduce: on Kubuntu 16.04LTS with all updates installed, "Switch
Application Language" shows a dialog with primary language and fallback
languages; and I see "American English", "British English", as well as my
native tongue. So this seem to work correctly. Maybe another distro/packaging
issue? Plasma integration issue on non KF5-native systems?

Cannot reproduce. Depending on the filling stage of MLT/ffmpeg decoder queues,
and the complexity of the clips, when you start timeline playback near a
transition, playback may stutter. Usually, another replay will have allowed MLT
and ffmpeg to cache enough decoded frames. You may also try timeline preview
rendering, in case the stuttering is actually caused by video, not audio.

I don't see any way to implement this in any sensible manner, especially as our
encoding engine is ffmpeg, and ffmpeg to the best of my knowledge doesn't
implement any render output prediction. From my own projects I know that I have
footage that causes high variations in rendered output size, depending on the
kind of footage. So a short clip of real video causes 25% growth, despite being
only 40s as opposed to 15mins of total runtime.

I did a quick check on my system: "arecord -l" lists my devices, with card 2
being my USB mixer to which I've hooked up my studio mic. A quick google for
ffmpeg and recording audio tells me to use the "-f alsa" option, with "-i
hw:x,y". It's audio card 2, sub device 0. So I could do recording using this
profile:

-f alsa -i hw:2,0 -crf 25 -ab 192k -vcodec libx264 -acodec libvorbis -preset
veryfast -threads 0

However, I'm unsure as to if this helps the original reporter; my understanding
is that he wants to be able to play the timeline with easy dubbing?

2016-09-28 Thread Wegwerf via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=369460

Bug ID: 369460
Summary: git master: importing/expanding library clip does not
take clip's locale into account
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: 16.08.0
  Platform: Compiled Sources
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Effects & Transitions
  Assignee: vpi...@kde.org
  Reporter: wegwerf-1-...@gmx.de

When importing a library clip into a project and then expanding it, at least
some parameters are not properly taking the library clip's locale into account.
I see this problem with the wipe softness parameter of a composite transition
when expanding. The library clip itself uses locale "de_DE.UTF-8" and the
"softness" property is set to "0,2".

Reproducible: Always

Nah, quick'n'easy fix, just changing two text strings. And I prefer consistent
UI experience myself. :)

[kdenlive] [Bug 368235] Timeline hanging at startup

2016-09-27 Thread Wegwerf via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=368235

Benoit, we cannot reproduce; there's unfortunately almost no chance of fixing
this. I suspect something in your Ubuntu setup. Which overall window theme did
you install? A Gnome one or the KDE Frameworks 5 one?

[kdenlive] [Bug 369058] Kenlive crashing when files are imported

2016-09-27 Thread Wegwerf via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=369058

The crash happens here:

Thread 11 (Thread 0x7f55427fc700 (LWP 14608)): [KCrash Handler] #5
0x7f55a53a7a3c in _dl_relocate_object () from /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2
#6 0x7f55a53afac1 in dl_open_worker () from /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2

This looks like there is something wrong with overall shared library setup. Do
you have multiple MLT and/or ffmpeg versions installed? Do Kdenlive's
configuration properly point to the corresponding MLT and ffmpeg binaries and
shared libraries?

2016-09-26 Thread Wegwerf via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=369294

No, I don't want to see arbitrary output. You should see Kdenlive startup
messages similar to this:

OpenGL vendor: "X.Org"
OpenGL renderer: "Gallium 0.4 on AMD PITCAIRN (DRM 2.43.0, LLVM 3.8.0)"
OpenGL Threaded: false
OpenGL ARG_SYNC: true
OpenGL OpenGLES: false

If Fedora has incorrectly OpenGL stuff, then please tell your distro packagers
to correctly package Kdenlive. Thank you very much for your cooperation.

Do you have OpenGL enabled drivers installed? Kdenlive should report some
OpenGL information at startup. Moreover, your crash is trying to open OpenGL.

This seems to be a serialization issue with MLT, which causes multiple
instances of the same producer getting serialized.
