[plasmashell] [Bug 486108] New: GHNS: Plasmoid selection window: It should be clearer how to install downloaded plasmoids manually from the store

2024-04-25 Thread postix
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486108

Bug ID: 486108
Summary: GHNS: Plasmoid selection window: It should be clearer
how to install downloaded plasmoids manually from the
store
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.0.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: pos...@posteo.eu
CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

There are two ways of installing new Plasmoids:
1) by searching the store or
2) choosing a plasmoid locally.

For the latter it opens file picker dialog with a filter for "Plasmoid".
I've expected to be able to pick the manually downloaded Plasmoid from the
store, e. g. [1], which comes compressed as .tar.gz.
But due to the filter, it's not found and renaming it to *.plasmoid, it's
obviously the wrong format and won't install.

It'd be great to find some explanation in Plasma which guides the user on how
to install a Plasmoid from a local drive, because right now it's not obvious.

Maybe not too little benefit: One legit reason which came into my mind is that
it could be an issue for people with epilepsy [1]:
> Content that flickers, flashes, or blinks can trigger photosensitive
> epilepsy.

The rapid opening/closing is definitely kind of a flickering/flashing effect,
though I don't have any experience with it myself nor do I know people who may
be affected to absolutely proof it. But if it is, it should maybe be avoided at
any cost?

I am wondering if could run into this issue when upgrading from F39:
Does this bug affect all sorts of guests (like Win10) with Plasma Wayland as a

IMO there should be two types of hot-keys, those that re-trigger (Ctrl+V,
Ctrl+R/Z, ...) and those that don't (Meta+G, Meta+O,Meta+C, Meta+Tab*).

Having the mentioned effects for instance auto-re-trigger seems just wrong.
Kickoff for instance doesn't open/close repeatedly when holding down Meta. For
Meta+Tab it could make sense, but the speed with it switches between windows is
way too fast to be usable.

[kwin] [Bug 475077] Show non-linear virtual desktop arrangements again

2024-03-16 Thread postix
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=475077

To get back to topic:

another idea which came to my mind is to add a kind of "mini map" in the form
of the "pager applet" to the desktop bar, which highlights the currently
selected desktop.

Of course, this "mini map" would only be displayed in case of a non-linear
grid.

That way the user should not loose their "overview". :)

It's also not fixed for me on openSUSE TW + Plasma 6.0.2 using the Wayland
session.

Now the issue obviously persists on both Arch and openSUSE TW. Either both
distros have a packaging problem or maybe your system has some other patch
applied, which has not official been rolled out yet?

Screenshot + Mockup: How it could look like

I've scaled down the original desktop image in GIMP and put it next to it for
comparison: You can actually read the text even in the tiny preview. Thus I
think there's actually plenty space for optimization. :)
