[krita] [Bug 493144] Gradient preset in XYZ space converted to sRGB

2024-09-15 Thread Robert Moerland
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=493144

Thank you for the extra info. I did see a comment about that behavior in the
merge request (https://invent.kde.org/graphics/krita/-/merge_requests/675). I
also think that's a fair design decision. The only thing that bothers me a
little bit then is that the conversion is done silently, i.e., there might be a
loss of color accuracy but it's not explicitly mentioned.

Perhaps this report could be converted into a wishbug/usability improvement,
where I could see as a solution for example (thinking out loud):
1. Explicitly warn the user in the UI that XYZ colors are converted to sRGB in
the gradient editor, or
2. Perhaps store colors picked from an XYZA document in RGB with the ACES2065-1
color profile?

[digikam] [Bug 493151] New: IP address setting for PTP/IP camera is mishandled

2024-09-15 Thread Robert
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=493151

Bug ID: 493151
Summary: IP address setting for PTP/IP camera is mishandled
Classification: Applications
   Product: digikam
   Version: 8.4.0
  Platform: Ubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Setup-Cameras
  Assignee: digikam-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: grzy...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

Thank you for creating and maintaning digiKam!

I had troubles configuring PTP/IP camera in digiKam. I was able to make it work
when the camera was joined to my home Wi-Fi (192.168.1.241) but if I tethered
the same camera directly to my laptop (10.42.0.212) it won't work.

While investigating I have realised that digiKam is attempting to connect to a
wrong IP address (8.34.0.212).

It would appear that digiKam saves the content of GUI controls for the IP
address verbatim (including leading zeros).

When the resulting _string_ ("010.042.000.212") is then passed to the gphoto2
library (which is written in C) any individual octet starting with zero will be
(as expected) treated as on octal number - not a decimal.

I was able to workaround this issue by removing the leading zeros from the file
`~/.local/share/digikam/cameras.xml`.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add and configure PTP/IP camera, enter an IP address where one or more
octets are in the range 8 to 99 decimal.
2. Attempt to connect to the camera (Camera->Import->TCP/IP Camera) while using
the underlying OS to observe an actual address begin connected to (for example
using `ss` utility)

OBSERVED RESULT
The (innocent) gphoto2 library attempts to connect to wrong IP address (where
each octet of the configured IP address which was greater than 7 or less than
100 is not the same as what was entered on the configuration screen. For
example configuring an IP address 10.42.0.212 results in an attempt to connect
to incorrect host at 8.34.0.212

EXPECTED RESULT
digiKam should attempt to connect to the PTP/IP camera at the IP address
configured (specified) by the user.

[krita] [Bug 493144] New: Gradient preset in XYZ space converted to sRGB

2024-09-15 Thread Robert Moerland
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=493144

Bug ID: 493144
Summary: Gradient preset in XYZ space converted to sRGB
Classification: Applications
   Product: krita
   Version: 5.2.3
  Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: Microsoft Windows
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: File formats
  Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: rmoerlan...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 173679
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=173679&action=edit
zip file with gradient presets as saved by Krita. All are XYZ layers in either
an XYZA document or an RGBA document

SUMMARY
Adding a gradient preset while sampling colors from an XYZA document leads to
different colors in the SVG file, depending on the color depth (int/float).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a new document in XYZA space, 16-bit float or int
2. Paint some colors
3. Use the gradient editor to add a new gradient, and sample colors from the
image
4. Save the gradient

OBSERVED RESULT
On one document with floats, colors were converted to sRGB:

On another document with floats, it seems that the conversion is implicit (and
the floating point style has disappeared):

On a document with ints:

EXPECTED RESULT
Floating point color definitions from floating point sources in XYZ space

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows 10 Version 2009
Qt Version: 5.15.7

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The gradients seem to be saved properly (with icc-color) when, for example, a
ClayRGB profile and the RGBA model are used to work in.

I can reproduce the issue running krita-x64-5.3.0-prealpha-703c3eae on Windows
10, with the steps as described in the original report. The attched example
file also still shows the buggy behavior in this version. To emphasize, the
step of adding the filter layer to the group seems to be essential for
reproduction. Moving it out of the group results in the desired behavior.

I think I can reproduce the behavior, but I'm not a 100% sure given that "jpg
file from the web" allows for some freedom.

I'm testing with Krita 5.3.0-prealpha-703c3eae on Windows 10 and a Dell U2713H
(wide gamut) monitor.

Steps that *did not* reproduce the issue:
- Import / drag and drop tagged sRGB image into Krita. Colors are the same as
(color managed) photo viewer and PS CS 6
- Import / drag and drop tagged AdobeRGB image into Krita. Colors are the same
as (color managed) photo viewer and PS CS 6
- Import / drag and drop untagged sRGB image into Krita. Colors are the same as
(color managed) photo viewer and PS CS 6

Step that *did* (?) reproduce the issue:
- Import / drag and drop untagged AdobeRGB image into Krita. Colors are duller
than the properly-tagged version. Rendering in other software depends on
implementation (assume sRGB profile or assume monitor profile).

My hesitation to fully confirm that I reproduced the bug stems from the fact
that the proposed workaround ("save the resulting image without incorporating
the icc") seems to actually trigger this behavior, if I understand the
workaround well.

Maybe a common factor - strawberry is also very like to crash when typing in
the collection filter - tends to happen when there's a lot of tracks visible -
I will experiment and see if that avoids the problem - though I guess the more
tracks the more likely it is to trip over the possible double destruction of
something (if that threadweaver discussion is apposite)

[kwin] [Bug 487780] Fullscreen game stutter when Plasma receives notifications.

2024-08-14 Thread Robert
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487780

Robert changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 Status|RESOLVED|REOPENED
 Resolution|FIXED |---

I believe that all the code paths that block direct scanout are not solved for
this use case. After further evaluation, your patch does improve things as the
stutter only happens once now and it's not caused by the notification pop up. I
believe that when the new notifications icon appears within the system tray on
the panel, this also blocks direct scanout once and this is probably the
stutter I observe now.

I'm going to re-open the bug, it's not a huge issue, however, if you have some
time, you might want to look into this, thanks.

The Qt4 version of amarok used to autocomplete (as a pull down list) when
editing track information (based upon what was already in the local collection)
it would be nice if this functionality was restored. (can't see this in the bug
list, apologies if it's a duplicate.I thought I'd logged it, maybe I just
intended to! )

[plasmashell] [Bug 487075] Total Panel Freeze Takes Down KDE

2024-08-02 Thread Robert Svensson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487075

(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #6)
> Are you able to confirm that way of reproducing the issue,
> bugreport...@mailna.me? I can't.

Not the one you asked but I also can't reproduce it with those steps. I do
still however have it happen quite quickly by just playing around with the
icons in the system tray. Especially if I hover the cursor above the icons long
enough to produce a tooltip popup to display, then moving the cursor between
icons and randomly clicking some of them etc.

It's likely that there are multiple issues producing the same result of a
frozen panel here that people are experiencing.

[kwin] [Bug 487780] Fullscreen game stutter when Plasma receives notifications.

2024-07-29 Thread Robert
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487780

I'm just following up on this bug and have noticed that despite having 6.1.3
and the latest updates, there is still a pronounced stutter that occurs
consistently when notifications are received.

I'm not sure if this is now direct scanout being interrupted or another problem
with the code.

[kwin] [Bug 490986] New: Plasma falls back to "Zink Vulkan 1.3" as graphics processor when using latest NVIDIA Beta driver 560.28.03

2024-07-29 Thread robert . fayz
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=490986

Bug ID: 490986
Summary: Plasma falls back to "Zink Vulkan 1.3" as graphics
processor when using latest NVIDIA Beta driver
560.28.03
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.1.3
  Platform: Arch Linux

Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal

  Reporter: robert.f...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
This is regarding my laptop, a 2022 Asus ROG Strix G733CX Optimus graphics
laptop running in discreet GPU Mode on Arch linux running kernel
6.10.2-273-tkg-eevdf (64-bit)

Plasma falls back to "Zink Vulkan 1.3" as graphics processor when using latest
NVIDIA Beta driver 560.28.03 suggesting that it is failing to access the native
NVIDIA OpenGL Renderer. The current "New Feature" branch driver 555.58.02
reports "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU/PCIe/SSE2" which is what I would
expect. I know it's a beta driver it could be an NVIDIA bug, but I'm reporting
it here since it could be a change in NVIDIA driver stack that Plasma might
need to react to. Occasionally on the beta driver the Plasma desktop will
become non responsive, usually shortly after log in when it does happen. It is
not a kernel panic as I'm able to get to a virtual terminal and reboot the
system. I'm not experienced in how to give you an appropriate log to diagnose
the issue, but will with guidance.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install nvidia-beta-dkms (or nvidia-open-beta-dkms), nvidia-utils-beta.
lib32-nvidia-utils-beta, nvidia-settings-beta opencl-nvidia-beta and
lib32-opencl-nvidia-beta from the AUR on Arch Linux
2. Reboot
3. Visit the About this System Dialog in Plasma Settings App and not the
graphics processor in use is "zink Vulkan 1.3"

OBSERVED RESULT
Visit the About this System Dialog in Plasma Settings App and not the graphics
processor in use is "zink Vulkan 1.3"

EXPECTED RESULT
Visit the About this System Dialog in Plasma Settings App and not the graphics
processor in use is "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU/PCIe/SSE2"

[plasmashell] [Bug 487075] Total Panel Freeze Takes Down KDE

2024-07-27 Thread Robert Svensson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487075

I'm experiencing it on Wayland yes. I haven't tried it on X11 myself because
ironically (given the historical Nvidia issues with Wayland) I can't get an X11
session running on this machine anymore/at the moment.

[plasmashell] [Bug 487075] Total Panel Freeze Takes Down KDE

I'm also experiencing this on KDE 6.1.3. I don't have a good way to reproduce
it yet unfortunately, but so far it has always happened while hovering the
mouse above the icons in the system tray like the volume, notifications, etc.
After this the panel will freeze completely, and I also can't right click on
the desktop background. The last tooltip that was shown when hovering above the
icon that caused it to freeze remains in place.

Software/Hardware info:
Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.3

Qt Version: 6.7.2
Kernel Version: 6.9.8-zen3-xanmod1-1 (64-bit)

Thanks Nate, Arch has already backported the fix to stable and I just installed
the latest KSvg and Plasma 6.1 and can confirm that all artifacts are gone,
keep up the good work.

Since when am I required to provide patches when reporting a bug to an
application? What kind of attitude is this?

> It's not a bug in Krita that Python has decided that breaking source
> compatibility is a good idea.

It has been deprecated since Python 3.11:

> Python 3.11.0
> Release Date: Oct. 24, 2022

This is not new, there are code warnings when you use deprecated methods, this
is not the only one in your code.

> And I don't think we're supposed to keep up with beta releases of
> dependencies...

You are not keeping up with beta release of dependencies, it has been
deprecated for two years.

Moreover, I don't understand why you are answering in such a passive aggressive
manner? This is not my fault, I am just informing you that your software will
fail to build on distro that will be shipping Python 3.13 when it will be
released.

Also don't close this bug again without an actual fix. Thank you.

[krita] [Bug 488680] Krita fails to build with Python 3.13.0~b2

2024-06-18 Thread Robert-André Mauchin
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=488680

https://docs.python.org/3.13/whatsnew/3.13.html :

Remove the following old functions to configure the Python initialization,
deprecated in Python 3.11:

PySys_AddWarnOptionUnicode(): use PyConfig.warnoptions instead.

PySys_AddWarnOption(): use PyConfig.warnoptions instead.

PySys_AddXOption(): use PyConfig.xoptions instead.

PySys_HasWarnOptions(): use PyConfig.xoptions instead.

PySys_SetPath(): set PyConfig.module_search_paths instead.

Py_SetPath(): set PyConfig.module_search_paths instead.

Py_SetStandardStreamEncoding(): set PyConfig.stdio_encoding instead, and
set also maybe PyConfig.legacy_windows_stdio (on Windows).

_Py_SetProgramFullPath(): set PyConfig.executable instead.

Use the new PyConfig API of the Python Initialization Configuration instead
(PEP 587), added to Python 3.8. (Contributed by Victor Stinner in gh-105145.)

I can also reproduce, a fresh session works fine, however, when a window is
maximized and then closed, the bug appears. The tooltips for panel elements are
also defective with cut off corners where some of them don't have rounding.

Reviewing the Desktop Effects KCM, the only thing that stands out is the effect
called "Fading Popups" as they seem to smoothly fade in and out when they show
and disappear. I didn't make any changes to this module and use the default
effect settings as packaged by Arch/EndeavourOS. Thanks for looking into this
minor, but still important issue.

okay, then direct scanout is definitely getting interrupted, when it shouldn't
be.
Do you have any effects that would be acting on notifications?

Same issue for me, Landscape printing is broken in all KDE applications, other
programs are fine. This isn't a good look for KDE as minor bugs are

I have a similar use case like Sin Jeong-hun and a manual mode is definitely
needed to make the feature more useful and flexible, it would make the feature
behave similarly to Windows 11 and Android which is probably what most users
expect as there is a lot more criteria that determines the use of the blue
light filter than simply scheduling.

Just following up, I can confirm that after setting the environment variable
KWIN_DRM_NO_DIRECT_SCANOUT=1 and rebooting, there is no stutter present and
everything is perfectly smooth in the same gaming scenario when receiving
desktop notifications. This likely points to a bug in the direct scanout
implementation.

Can you test the same scenario after putting
KWIN_DRM_NO_DIRECT_SCANOUT=1

No reaction since 2019.

I suggest two work arounds for easy access to "reply to all..."

1) the hotkey by default is "A". Just type a and you can reply to all.
2) you can customise the toolbar and add next/instead of "reply..." the tool
button "reply to all".

I suggest to close this bug report as INTENTIONAL/WORKSFORME.

I think we should distinguish between two slightly different situations:

2) few non-changing recipients (cake of the bug reporter)

Create separate identities for each email address and configure the appropriate
SMTP sender. Kmail switch to the respective identity when replying to mails.
Furthermore, the identity chooser can also be enabled in the composer view, so
that users get an easy drop-down selection field to overwrite the identity on a
case-by-case (here email) basis.

2) many non-stable recipients due to the use of sub addressing, e.g.
myname+onlinesh...@host.com or mycompany+clie...@host.com

Here, it is likely not feasible to setup identities for each sub address. Note
that there is no common standard for sub addresses. Sometimes it is "+",
sometimes it is "-". Hence, detection is non-trivial.

As (1) solves the issue of the bug reporter and (2) is somewhat different, I
suggest to either close this bug report as solved or change the title to be
explicit that this bug report covers now rather (2).

[kwin] [Bug 487780] New: Fullscreen game stutter when Plasma receives notifications.

2024-05-29 Thread Robert
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487780

Bug ID: 487780
Summary: Fullscreen game stutter when Plasma receives
notifications.
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.0.5
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: performance
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org

https://discuss.kde.org

If you're reporting a crash, attach a backtrace with debug symbols; see
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports
***

SUMMARY
When playing fullscreen games, in particular games using Steam Proton and DXVK
(most likely all fullscreen games), there is a momentary drop in frame rate as
the desktop notification is received and again as it disappears. It is
important to clarify that nothing actually renders over the game, only the
momentary stutter that corresponds with the time the notification would appear
on the desktop had the game not been running fullscreen. This should not be
happening since nothing is actually rendered over the game and nothing should
be disturbing the rendering process with direct scanout working consistently.
This happens with all notifications and is most noticeable for me with KDE
Connect messages from my phone.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Make sure "Screen Tearing: Allow in fullscreen windows" is enabled in Plasma
display configuration.
2. Launch a Vulkan game in fullscreen mode.
3. Set VSync in the game or a constant frame rate so that the game is perfectly
smooth (Preferably use a Vulkan hood such as DXVK_HUD with frametimes graph
overlay).
4. Trigger a desktop notification such as a text message with KDE Connect via
Android.
5. Observe a sudden momentary stutter and corresponding spike in the frametime
graph when a notification comes in to the desktop such as KDE Connect and once
again when it disappears.

OBSERVED RESULT
A momentary stutter and spike in frametime is observed when Plasma gets a
notification in an otherwise perfectly smooth VSync'd game experience.

EXPECTED RESULT
The frame rate should remain perfectly smooth with no stutter during background
notification reception and frametimes should be consistent all the time.

Git commit aef14f05c994d71db290511ac26864b1073470a6 by Nate Graham.
Committed on 02/06/2021 at 21:01.
Pushed by ngraham into branch 'master' https://tubidy.diy/.

Make results delegate list items a bit taller with bigger icons

We generally use the smallMedium (22px) icon size for
small-ish-but-not-too-small icons as they have a better visual balance
with adjacent text, compared to the small (16px) icon size. 22px icons
also generally look better than 16px icons. Moving the results list
items to use smallMedium icons offers a better visual balance, and
adding a tiny of vertical padding balances out everything a bit more
to provide more "breathing room" between the rows https://y2mate.diy/.

As a consequence, the maximum number of results visible at once has to
decrease a bit, but this is generally not a major problem as the user
can simply keep typing to refine their search to find what it is they're
looking for https://emp3juice.blog/.

One feature I am particularly missing is the GIT Conflict Solver like displayed

Is it technically feasible to implement this, as a plugin for example?

I don't know if the kind of textarea Kate/Kwrite is using would be able to

[kmail2] [Bug 486838] New: flatpak: file dialogue to add attachment has by default no read permission to any files

2024-05-10 Thread Robert Riemann
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486838

Bug ID: 486838
Summary: flatpak: file dialogue to add attachment has by
default no read permission to any files
Classification: Applications
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 6.0.2
  Platform: Flatpak
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: composer
  Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: rob...@riemann.cc
  Target Milestone: ---

Recently, I switched to Kinoite 40 and installed Kontact as flatpak from the
fedora flatpak repository. It is now in version 6.0.2.

When I try to draft an email and click on 'add attachment', a file picker opens
that cannot see any files. I have then reconfigured the flatpak permissions and
added manually create access to all user files and /tmp.

I would expect Kmail/Kontact to possess the necessary permissions by default.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install fedora kontact flatpak
2. create a new email
3. try to add an attachment using the file picker
Actual Results:
notice that no file can be selected in file picker

Expected Results:
I can choose any file from the system in the file picker

Created attachment 169358
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=169358&action=edit
screenshot with warning message

SUMMARY

When I create a new contact or edit an existing contract, I get the following
warning even though I have not touched any location-related elements in the
contact card: "Location was not saved. Do you want to close editor?"

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. create a new contact in an addressbook (I use a carddav remote addressbook)
2. add a name and an email address
3. click save
4. see the warning: Location was not saved. Do you want to close editor?

OBSERVED RESULT

I get a warning that I have to accept.

EXPECTED RESULT

I only get such a warning if I have changed the location fields.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

I am using the fedora repository flatpak of kontact in version 6.0.2.

[korganizer] [Bug 486836] New: more privacy for event invitees when sending out calendar invitees or share ICS files

2024-05-10 Thread Robert Riemann
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486836

Bug ID: 486836
Summary: more privacy for event invitees when sending out
calendar invitees or share ICS files
Classification: Applications
   Product: korganizer
   Version: 6.0.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: invitations
  Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: rob...@riemann.cc
  Target Milestone: ---

I tagged this as a feature request. However, in some regions with strict
privacy laws demanding "data minimisation" and privacy by default, this could
be interpreted as a legal obligation that would merit a classification as bug.

SUMMARY

KOrganizer allows to share event details with invitees using two ways:
1. add people as participants
2. right click on event and click on "send as iCalendar..."

In both cases, the names and mail addresses of invitees are revealed to other
invitees, thus impacting their privacy.

Note that in all cases, the actual contact data sharing is not made transparent
to the event organiser.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. create a new event
2. add two people as invitees
3. see that each invitee can see in the email all other invitees
4. go back to Korganiser and click right on an event in the month view, choose
in the context menu "send as iCalendar" and add two mail addresses
5. find in the sent mail folder that both mail addresses are in the "to"
instead of "bcc"

OBSERVED RESULT

Invitees see mail addresses and names of other invitees.

EXPECTED RESULT

Invitees can only see mail addresses and names of other invitees if the event
organiser has made an explicit choice to share this data.

Linux/KDE Plasma: 6.0
I am using Kontact flatpak 6.0.2 from the fedora repository. According to some
Matrix channel, the fedora flatpak is built the same way like the KDE kontact
flatpak on flathub.

Until this is fixed - thanks Tuomas for all your work with amarok - I'm fudging
this by hand editing ~/.local/share/amarok/dynamic.xml and changing (without
amarok running!)length6000 - if 10
minutes to length600 which seems to
work - but making sure I don't attempt to edit the value within amarok.

Thank you for your reply. From what I can see, it is indeed 6.0.4.

For now I downgraded to 6.0.3 and I don't have such issues.

With current software, I cannot reproduce the issue from two years ago.

I tried several variations of this procedure:
  - Open Gwenview, or click 'Home' icon if already open.
  - Click 'Recent Locations' in the 'Places' tab.
- The 'Recent Locations' window is displayed.
  - Click the 'Home' icon.
- The 'Recent Folders' sub-window/tab and the
  'Places' sub-window/tab are displayed.
  - {Click | Double click | Click, } 'recentlyused:/locations/'
in the 'Recent Folders' tab.
- The 'Recent Locations' window is displayed.

I also created a new user to repeat the tests with initially empty
'Recent Folders' and 'Recent Locations'. There were no problems at all.
