This bug report dates back to 2016., but the problem still exists in 2024. I
can confirm it for kmail 5.240.95 rc2 on Fedora 40. And, I am sorry to say it,
it has never worked properly for me.

I have a similar problem with Debian stable and openSuSe stable. After
importing about 5000 emails (~ 700 MB, divided into ~ 100 containers) plasma
becomes permanently unstable, it hangs or crashes after some time when kmail
starts.
Although I have deleted the import folder, it appears again and again, because
again and again a subscription activated, even if I disable it again. I suspect
Plasma hangs every time Kmail updates the Thunderbird import folder. The
approximately 100 containers are useless except for 6 (inbox / sent by 3 mail
accounts)

This bug is still present in Kmail 5.2.3 in Kubuntu 17.04 x64. I've updated the
