I completely second the notion of the bug reporter.
It is more than inconvenient that columns can neither be resized, nor hidden or
shown individually. Software should meet up to todays standards, especially
when we take into regard, that the main reason to promote opensource to
everyday users is the flexibility and customizabilty imho... which is painfully
missing here. 

It's always the small details.

The current behavior of Ark resizing the width by default is the expected
behavior.

However, I also think that the columns should be resizable (at least the name)
in case if you have a mixed archive.

Just because the archive contains a file with a long name, you shouldn't be
forced to use the scrollbar to see the properties of the remaining files.

Doesn't resize for me when they are inside some folder with a shorter name. But
even if it wasn't the case, it'd be nicer to be able to resize them freely like
in every other software.

I created an archive, inside a file with a very long filename to check if Ark
shows a tooltip for too long filenames. Instead, it resizes to first (filename)
column to fit the long name, causing a scrollbar to appear, so you should be
able to fully read them, even if they are longer than the window is wide.

Did I miss anything?

Yes, there is one obvious reason why people would want to resize them: if the
file names are long, they won't show entirely on the ark window.

No. I just think a bit strange Ark preventing manual resizing while all other
KDE apps allow it. You can close this report if you want.
