I just tried to render a test based on this report from the forum:

If you activate proxy on 16:9 footage and then render, the result which should
be 16:9 is maintaining the 4:3 aspect ratio of the proxy.
I am using today's compiled sources.
Would be good to fix before 16.08.2 release.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Add a file and create a proxy of it.
2. Add it to the timeline.
3. Render the project.
