I tried it on the same machine, again, and the problem seems to have
disappeared with new projects. It could have just been something that was a
glitch in the project file. I'll close this bug for now and re-open it if I can
reproduce more consistently across other machines.

I just tested from source (yes, I'm testing from source, now!), and the issue
doesn't seem to be present -- everything works fine with the latest git build
run from Qt Creator. Seems like the problem is with my one machine. Hmm... I'll
test on my Mac Mini running Mint 18.1, tomorrow to see if the issue is on
there.

I cannot reproduce either. Can you try updating your Kdenlive version from the
PPA and check if issue is still here?
