            Bug ID: 382966
Summary: FEATURE REQUEST: GPU rendering and processing (for
                    Nvidia and/or AMD graphics cards)
           Product: kdenlive
           Version: git-master
          Platform: Ubuntu Packages
                OS: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Video Display & Export
          Assignee: j...@kdenlive.org
          Reporter: jesse.dub...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I guess I'm formalizing something I'd desired for Kdenlive for a long time.
There's massive processing power in GPU's that Adobe Premiere, Sony Vegas, and
Final Cut takes advantage of to provide smooth playback while editing with no
drop in playback framerate. Kdenlive would gain a huge advantage to be able to
acquire this feature. Details would include:
- a checkbox to enable GPU Acceleration somewhere in the Kdenlive settings (for
PC's that have Nvidia/AMD graphics and the proper drivers installed)
- When enabled, Clip Monitor, Project Monitor and Timeline effects get piped
through the GPU, not the CPU.
- When enabled, Kdenlive renders out a final video using the GPU, not the CPU.
- POSSIBLE feature would be to be able to enable which (or all) GPU's you would
like to use, if the PC has more than one graphics card on board.

This is super important for editors to reduce editing time and increase
workflow.

SUGGESTED WHILE USING

Kubuntu 17.04 x64
KDE Plasma 5.10.4 (via ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports)
KDE Frameworks 5.36.0
Qt 5.7.1
Linux kernel 4.10.0-28-generic
Nvidia GTX 1080 graphics card
Nvidia 384.59 proprietary graphics driver
