This should be fixed in 3.0, where Dmitry spent a lot of time getting the
eraser mode switching correct.

In this case - no.
It was an eraser preset mapped on eraser tip and brush preset mapped on pen
tip.

While working now - yes.
I can't recall if there was any occurrence of this bug while using E, so it was
most probably some issue with mapping/communication with tablet.

I may have this same issue with my Intuos Pen (Arch Linux + KDE): I use
the eraser end of the stylus a lot, and sometimes rarely it will have Eraser
mode disabled and I have to either press E or click the "reset brush preset"
button to fix it.

Oh sorry, I just noticed this is 2.9 bug. I have this issue with 3.0, not sure
if it is the same or different.
