I have noticed in using Krita that the "eye" icons showing visibility of
the layers are no-longer dimmed when the layer is invisible. Is this
relevant?

If have done a search for %appdata%\krita\  which took me to the files as
shown on Capture 3. Having looked in all the folders, I cannot find a
kritarc file.

In the time I have been using Krita I was unaware that the screen colours
could be changed and have not made any changes or deletions.

Ah, thanks. I think that the problem would be solved if you would reset Krita's
configuration. Krita 3 and Krita 4 share the same kritarc configuration file,
and that sometimes breaks stuff. Could you attach the original kritarc file to
the bug report? It's only a small chance, but maybe we can figure out what is
going wrong there...

Thank you for the information on the Snipping Tool.

Capture 1 is from running Krita 3 ten minutes ago.
Capture is from running Krita 4.
I have completely uninstalled Krita 4, re-downloaded it and run it. It is
still the same as shown in Capture.

Well, if Krita is light-gray you must've chosen a different color theme. But
you do have the means to make a screenshot: Windows includes the Snipping Tool
for that purpose. The config file location is documented here:

I haven't the means to take a screenshot so I have drawn the relevant part
of the screen in approx. the colours they are appearing.
I have gone through all the Krita files (including those in the
"kritaplugins" folder - where I suspect the file should be) but I cannot
find a "kritarc" file. At no time in using Krita have I ever altered the
theme from the default settings.

Hm... Can you make a screenshot, or at the very least the colorscheme you are
using? I suspect what is going on is that Krita is accidentally selecting the
icons for one theme while you have the other(like, selecting the icons for the
light theme while you have a dark theme, giving dark on dark).

Another thing that could help here, is if you could search your computer for
the 'kritarc' file and attach that here.
