            Bug ID: 376338
Summary: The new plasma 5.9 Krunner and application launcher
unable to find a number of applications.
           Product: krunner
           Version: 5.9.1
          Platform: Other
                OS: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
          Assignee: k...@privat.broulik.de
          Reporter: kzho...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

After upgrading to the new plasma 5.9, Krunner and application launcher unable
to find a number of applications. For example, when I type `system` or `system
setting` in the search dialog, system setting does not pop up. However, system
setting is in the applications menu and launching from terminal also works.

Moreover, I can confirm the `.destop` files are also intact in the
`/usr/share/applications` directory.

Initially I got very frustrated because I mainly search the app when I want to
run it. Recently I investigated a bit more into the issue and took a closer
look at the folder these `.desktop` files belong. It turns out that all
applications that are unsearchable in the launcher or krunner have more than
one `.desktop` files in the `\usr\share\applications` directory. For example,
the system setting application can be launched from both
`kdesystemsettings.desktop' file and 'systemsettings.desktop' file, i.e., both
point to the same thing application if you take a look at the
`Exec=balabalabla` part. Now, if I delete one of them, the issue goes away.
Okular also exhibit similar issues, there are quite a few of `.desktop` files
with different file names pointing to the same app. Since I only encountered
this in plasma 5.9 and have never really looked at the directory as carefully,
I am not sure whether the bug belongs to Krunner or the fact that there are
multiple `.desktop` files pointing to the same application in the
`/usr/share/applications` directory is itself a bug. Just want to point it out
there since it was really a quite frustrating bug :) Feel free to rebrand this
bug as I am not entirely sure which part of KDE it belongs.
