I did not find a debug symbol package for plasma-workspace which contains
krunner on Kubuntu 20.04. Is there an easy way to recompile a version of the
package with debug symbols?

Can you please try to install the debug symbols? That might give a better hint

Are you using Nvidia?
And does disabling plugins help? (Maybe try to disable all an then disable them
one by one back).
