I did a complete re-install of the OS and now the error with the wallpaper
slideshow is gone. No idea what is different now.
This bug can be closed now. Thanks.

1) I installed valgrind and massif-visualizer
2) I then typed both commands in a terminal
3) Changed wallpaper to slideshow, refresh time 1 sec to speed things up
4) In the Conky on my screen I see NO increase in memory
