https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=517350 --- Comment #6 from James Graham --- Aside from playing devil's advocate a bit to make the point about user intention, element is the only one I know with a rich text bar (it's a lab try activating it) and that sometimes strips and sometimes doesn't e.g. heading = stripped, bold = left which is wonderfully inconsistent. The way I see it my real personal opinion is that I would want some but not others, but I also assume that others (yourself included) have a different list of what they would keep and what they would strip. Perhaps this is a place for an option regarding whether to paste with formatting by default, or strip the formatting to plain text. Out of curiosity, which chat apps do you use that don't strip formatting? All the other ones I do strip the formatting, including Telegram, Discord, and Element. We can't be trying to guess user intention this should be pasted as rich text ... except when it shouldn't is not workable. The only reasonable way to work is to follow the clipboard hint which in this case is rich text.
