I applied the codesign command to the digikam.app bundle and was able to open
from finder.

Sorry I did not see Bug 496380 before. I will add my comments there.

I just downloaded and installed the latest legacy version for Mac Intel
https://files.kde.org/digikam/legacy/digiKam-8.6.0-20241121T055349-Qt5-MacOS-x86_64.pkg
and the problem still exists.

Thank you, hopefully the solution for the Mac Silicon can be applied to the Mac
Intel version.

I had the same problem on an Intel MacBook Pro 16 inch 2019 after upgrading to
macOS 15.1. I just downloaded and installed the legacy version
https://files.kde.org/digikam/legacy/digiKam-8.5.0-20241027T124153-Qt5-MacOS-x86_64.pkg
and the problem still exists.

Thank you for your time and efforts.

Problem is fixed in the pre-release version of digiKam-8.5.0. There is now a
version for Apple Silicon:

https://files.kde.org/digikam/

or Intel:

https://files.kde.org/digikam/legacy/
