https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=515133 Christoph Cullmann changed: What|Removed |Added CC||[email protected] --- Comment #16 from Christoph Cullmann --- I think it makes sense to keep the hide feature and perhaps we should think about just coupling the hiding of the buttons with that. I assume most people that want the quick open/split buttons, will use the tabs, too (or the navbar). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=515133 [email protected] changed: What|Removed |Added CC||[email protected] --- Comment #15 from [email protected] --- I also use KWrite entirely in traditional mode (no tabs, every document in its own window, no minimap, no toolbar, nothing) and now I suddenly have a useless tab bar that I cannot remove, despite every relevant option saying it shouldn't be there. This is not only weird - why is there a tab bar when everything related to tabs is turned off - but also just plain useless. If you don't use tabs, the buttons in this bar are literally not able to do anything, so why are they visible? I'm not going to tell people smarter than I what to do or how to do it, but any option to just yeet everything tab-related into the sun - including this useless tab bar - would be very welcome. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=515133 Darshan Phaldesai changed: What|Removed |Added CC||dev.darshanphaldesai@gmail. ||com --- Comment #14 from Darshan Phaldesai --- I use kwrite because it hides away all the UI clutter (or at least has had the option to). Even if the linked change is "intentional", I would consider this is a regression. I would shy away from removing that option also and instead add a way to fix this at least for kwrite. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=515133 goo changed: What|Removed |Added CC||[email protected] --- Comment #13 from goo --- do not remove "auto hide tabs" when only one document is open... this is a useful feature and i think unrelated to this bug report. this issue is that the bar which includes the two nav arrows on the left and two icons on the right is only supposed to be evoked when you have EITHER the Show Tabs OR Show Navigation check boxes enabled under Settings. on plasma 5, if NEITHER of these check boxes is enabled, i do not get this bar with the arrows and the icons and just empty space in between there is always either the location or the open tabs shown inbetween the arrows on the left and icons on the right. the case for showing this bar with nothing in between the arrows on the left and the icons on the right is what needs to be removed. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

This seems the wrong approach. I've been using KWrite in its traditional mode, i.e. without tabs, and suddenly there's an unused toolbar that I neither want nor need. "Auto hide tab bar" is a useful feature. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Whether its > right/wrong/should be changed is a separate discussion. not separate, this bug report + discussion is about unasked buttons that use vertical space: (In reply to alanas.00 from comment #1) > Created attachment 189147 [details] > screenshot with buttons > > do you see buttons like in screenshot or is space completely empty? (In reply to Christoph Feck from comment #2) > Yes, I see them, but I didn't ask for them. If I need those, I would add > them to the toolbar instead. not hiding buttons was intentional change (https://invent.kde.org/utilities/kate/-/merge_requests/1980, "don't hide buttons" is in the name) but it was bad intentional change because now there is no way to hide everything between toolbar and big text editor thing I made merge request (https://invent.kde.org/utilities/kate/-/merge_requests/2022) to add "Show Buttons Around Tabs" checkbox and it makes to hide everything between toolbar and big text editor thing (In reply to Christoph Feck from comment #7) > For example, I just found out that the arrows in the Tab bar do not invoke > "Next Tab" and "Previous Tab", but rather cursor movement operations. > These arrows also clash with the scroll arrows Qt adds > to the tab bar when it grows too many entries. [kate] [Bug 515133] Tab bar no longer hidden
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=515133 --- Comment #8 from Waqar Ahmed --- @Christoph Feck The buttons around tabbar have existed since a long time and they may seem unrelated, but they are related as in they work per split. Whether its right/wrong/should be changed is a separate discussion. For now, lets focus on this bug. @Christoph Cullmann As I see it we have two options: 1) Should we remove the auto hide tabbar option? 2) Should we add back the hiding of buttons i.e., revert to the old status? The linked MR allows you to hide the buttons, related but doesn't fix the problem in my understanding. So if we decide to merge that, we should do (1) as well. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kate] [Bug 515133] Tab bar no longer hidden
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=515133 --- Comment #7 from Christoph Feck --- See comment #2. The user is able to customize the toolbar buttons they need, in any order, any icon size, or with a text label, so I don't see the need for adding (inconfigurable) buttons to the tab bar. For example, I just found out that the arrows in the Tab bar do not invoke "Next Tab" and "Previous Tab", but rather cursor movement operations. Unsure why these have been picked and not any of the others that are offered in the "Go" or "View" menu. These arrows also clash with the scroll arrows Qt adds to the tab bar when it grows too many entries. In other words, I would expect that buttons fixed to the tab bar are somehow related to the tab bar. See e.g. Konsole, which adds a "New Tab" button there. And if the tab bar only contains buttons related to the tab bar, there would be no need for an option to hide them separately. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
