The new "compose send" feature (the icon with a pencil) should let you input
text via gesture typing and voice typing.

I think I have a similar issue. I'm running Fedora, tried both a compiled
(21.04.2) and the repo version (v20.12.2), with a pxiel 4 on the latest update
(RQ3A.210605.005).

I'm interested in voice typing, and I have seen videos of this working online,
but it does not work for me on my local installation. Even the backspace key in
the voice typing UI does not work.

BTW Joseph if you hit the symbols key (?123) you should be able to access a
voice typing menu. Does it work for you?

This seems to also prevent Google voice typing from being an option; see the
prior screenshot where the voice typing icon is available in a standard text
field, but not within KDE connect. I've tried all the options within GBoard,
and as far as I can tell it seems to be related to the type of input in KDE
Connect. It'd be pretty sweet to have the option of using Google voice typing
in arbitrary applications (e.g., LibreOffice, Thunderbird, Slack, etc.), which
as far as I know is not otherwise available on Linux desktop.

For foreign languages (e.g. Chinese, Japanese, Korean), there are actually
different IMEs / input schemas that you can use.

e.g. You can try fcitx + Rime for Chinese input.

I am also hoping this bug would be fixed, but to support my different use case.
This bug seems to boil down to supporting the input of text instead of key
strokes.

Compared to a smartphone, it is difficult to type mathematical symbols, emojis,
and foreign languages on a computer. I was hoping to use KDE Connect for that,
but this bug prevents me from doing that

The problem is that KDE Connect emulates key events, not text input per se.
Those key events then get interpreted by the text field to get the actual text.
So this is not really a bug but rather how KDE Connect works. It might be
possible to enable gesture typing, but that would require significant effort,
so don't have any high hopes for that.

Sorry

It is probably not keyboard dependent, since I can confirm this also happens
with the Swiftkey keyboard.
