For a centralized service like that; it'd probably out of the scope of KDE to 
handle that. Sync like that is expensive.

For the future a KDE owned online service for users to backup and sync
their KDE Apps / Plasma Workspace settings on multiple devices through
this new online identity system would be nice. Not sure how this
affects the requirements of this identity system.

Hi Roman,

This shouldn't change the requirements of the system, as users would
authenticate with this future service the same way they'll
authenticate to our other websites - using OAuth2 (or equivalent
mechanism).

It does affect requirements slightly. Currently KDE Identity is for
people who participate in the community, even if it's as little as
asking questions in the forum. Letting people backup and sync their
settings means we're broadening the scope to "all users of KDE
software", which may have implications for scalability. It also makes
the "don't require usernames for login" requirement much more
important.

FWIW this is of especial importance. We (the Board) had a call with
Ben few weeks ago and discussed this issue, it's clear that it's
something central to KDE infrastructure.

If you are wondering if this is worth spending some of your time, it
probably is. Especially if you are familiar with such technologies.
