Have you set up Nepomuk correctly (ie installed Virtuoso and its dependencies

[kde-freebsd] Why I can't enable compositing option in KDE4?

2010-02-17 Thread Yuri
I have the latest NVidia driver and the card is 9400GT.

In Configure Window Behavior screen I first check Enable desktop
effects.
Then it says that Compositing is temporarily disabled. When I click
Resume Compositing sometimes nothing happens at all. But sometimes
after few clicks it says that it's now enabled. But after that when I
open this screen again it says it is temporarily disabled again. No
explanation is given.

xorg.conf has this section:
Section Extensions
  Option Composite Enable
  Option MIT-SHM Enable
EndSection

And Xorg.log acknowledges this:
(**) Extension Composite is enabled
(**) Extension MIT-SHM is enabled

What's wrong?
Compositing and effects used to work almost fine before. Except for the
black windows problem.

Yes I have Virtuoso and its dependencies installed, but I will check SVN and
recompile again.
I will have a look at the other post on the mailing list about the problems
with Nepomuk/Akonadi.

Yes 3D effects did work ok on 4.3.0 and 4.3.5, only on 4.4.0 makes this
strange thing.

Thank you for you response, I will submit a bug on bug.kde.org

Looking in the Makefile for kdebase4-runtime, nepomuk requires

 do not exist.

 /usr/local/lib/soprano/libsoprano_virtuosobackend.so, which does exist.

All three files exist on my system. It would seem that something did not
get recompiled properly and Nepomuk is not actually present.

libsoprano_virtuosobackend.so should have been installed by soprano
itself. The other two files should be provided by kdebase4-runtime.

Check that your configuration for textproc/soprano (to be found at
/var/db/ports/soprano/options) only lists one option, dealing with the
sesame backend. Then rebuild soprano and check whether
libsoprano_virtuosobackend.so has appeared on your file system. If yes,
try rebuilding kdebase4-runtime.

I think it is quite likely you are simply dealing with a few stale
installed ports.
