  Hello,

  How do we proceed with this? Should I file a bug report in FreeBSD or in
  KDE? Thanks

 I did over the last weekend:

 # rm -rf /var/db/pkg/* /usr/local/*
 # cd /usr/ports
 # make clean
 # cd x11/kde4
 # make install clean BATCH=yes

 i.e. there is nothing of Gtk2 anymore during the compilation path;

 Then (after ~24 hours) I installed Xorg from binary packages and started
 KDE4 in the normal user environment;

 the effect remains the same: when locking the KDE4 desktop, bringing up
 the small window to unlock, after one second or so it changes as
 described. I'm now clueless.

 I will make binary packages of all and try it in some VM to see if it
 depends on hardware or X11 driver.

I'm curious. I'm doing a rebuild on an iMac G4 800MHz and want to know if
the same will affect.

 It could be down to KDE4 using OpenGL for desktop effect.
 I think that you need to say a few words about your graphics HW and maybe
 numeric versions of the relevant ports (*GL*, drm, xorg-server, your xorg
 video
 driver, etc).

Here is a complete list of all installed packages and the Xorg.log with
the infos about the graphics hardware:

http://www.unixarea.de/pkg.lst
http://www.unixarea.de/Xorg.0.log

It seems that the problem is only with older (qt3/KDE3) applications,
like Firefox, Pidgin, konqueror 3.5.10, ... but not with real KDE4
applications like konqueror 4.6.3, kaddressbook, etc.

 Hello,

 While playing around with KDE4 from 9-CURRENT ports I encounter the
 following display problem:

 When I pick-up a menu, in the attached example it is from the
 Pidgin application, and move down the mouse pointer, the window of
 the menue gets somehow mangled (see attchment): some parts change
 to white forground, some parts lets see what is written behind the
 window, i.e. in other X11 apps;

 the same happens, for example if I lock the session and bringup
 the small window to unlock it (by clicking into the dark display),
 the unlock window first comes up correctly, but after 1-2 secs
 its content chsnges and lets see what is written in X11 clients of
 the locked session; this is even a security issue a bit;

 What is causing this?

I think that it's hard to answer this question for sure.
My guess is that it is something below KDE: kernel dri/drm driver, userland
dri/drm driver, userland video-card driver, X server, etc.
