Hi Kdenlivers,
I would like to get feedback on a possible workflow improvement feature for
Kdenlive in the hope that it is not too specific to my projects.
Alas, I'm doing tech educational videos in my day job. Video is actually my way
to get important knowledge into the heads of my fellow workers, avoiding
throwing large piles of printed paper at them.
I'm first recording illustrations I'm drawing on a tablet using an active pen
(using an external HDMI recording box). This recording hasn't yet the proper
timing for audio explanations that will be added later. Also, the raw footage
has recorded UI interactions that I want to have in the final rendered video.
So I basically cut the raw video into bits of drawing activity, joined by
stills taken from the same raw footage. I thus have a single video track that
basically is d1, s1, d2, s2, ... where d is a region with drawing, s are the
stills. Alle clips are adjacent, but the still clips haven't their final length
yet.
Next I record audio explanations (in Audacity) and do some minor audio cleanup.
Then I drag the voice over onto an audio track. Now the daunting work follows
where I need to get the d, s sequences in sync with audio. Basically, I need to
resize the stills so that the next drawing clip will be in sync with the audio
explanations.
What I would like to propose is a new edit mode where I can resize the right
end of a clip, such as a still, even if there are adjacent clips to it. All
other following clips on the same track will automatically move accordingly as
the user resizes the clip.
To my understanding there isn't such an edit tool yet in Kdenlive; if I'm wrong
I would be glad to learn where to find it! I'm also unsure if my proposal is
actually one of the editing modes that were discussed here some time ago with
respect to pro editing modes that Kdenlive currently lacks.
Best regards, Harald
