Yeah and I even installed the kubuntu-desktop package to see if running it in
kde would show different behavior but still nothing was printed to the
terminal...

Can I just chime in and suggest implementing an importer/exporter for an
existing standard such as the Final Cut Pro XML Interchange Format for
importing/exporting projects, rather than devising a new one that would be
used only by KDL/OpenShot:

Does the camera create an XML file with data in it, along with the MP4? If
it does can you post it for me? i'm just curious :)
