I'm not seeing anything broken with modern KOrganizer (version 5.12.x)
I suppose this could be something due to XFCE too. I'm not planning to run

Martin sent me a test .ics file.
It has double-spacing and does not use CRLF lineending.
Indeed KOrganizer claims to have imported that file but the event is not shown.

Yes, my $QT_PLUGIN_PATH looks fine.
I played with a few things and nothing worked except for removing the distro

the Kmail stack.
