This behaviour has disappeared and I cannot reproduce it: everything is working
fine now.
I cannot explain what has changed. (Before to fill a bug report, I did reboot
and the "bug" was still there.)

oddly enough when I compose the email while browsing on any subfolder other
than the main Inbox the email is successfully sent, which suggests this bug is
related to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=419752 as
