I have the same problem. Each time, kaddressbook is restarted all catergories
are increased by 1, each single. And deleting them does not work, an empty
category keeps staying alive.
Very very bad.

[Bug 258537] Mail folder in wrong place, cannot be replaced

Have you checked KMail settings Zugänge (2. entry) Receiving. There I find
the Akonadi resources as in comment #2. How is it in KDE 4.5.3 ?

If I use kfind with Search in: 'home directory' and Content Containing text:
'Mail folder in wrong' then I see in case of KMail Folders in which file(s) the
mails are stored. In case of Akonadi, mails are also stored in the Akonadi data
base (4.6 Beta1).

In the File menu there is an import command. After importing you can also find
out where everything is stored and you can check consistency.

[Bug 258665] New: kontact doesn't start akregator on startup

2010-12-03 Thread Paul Millar
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=258665

Summary: kontact doesn't start akregator on startup
   Product: kontact
   Version: 4.4.5
  Platform: Debian unstable
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: p...@astro.gla.ac.uk

Version: 4.4.5 (using KDE 4.4.5)
OS:Linux

kontact is a shell surrounding several KDE components, such as KMail and
akregator.

When the akregator icon in kontact (left-hand edge; entitled Feeds) is
selected, then kontact will start akregator and (if configured) initiate an
initially fetch of the feeds. An icon appears in the system tray and, if the
Notify when new articles arrive option is selected in some feeds, then one or
more messages may appear describing new items.

I have kontact configured to show KMail on startup; however, I wish to be
alerted if I've selected different feeds with the Notify when[..] option.

Could kontact be adjusted to start akregator (in the background) on startup?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start kontact.
2. Switch kontact to Feeds view.
3. Switch back to kmail view.

Actual Results:
After step 1., there is no akregator icon in system tray.

Step 2. triggers kontact to initialise akregator.

Step 3. allows reading of email, etc.

After update of feeds, (and if configured) there is possibly messages from some
feeds.

Expected Results:
Kontact starts and akregator also starts at the same time, without switching to
akregator view.

I can't decide the severity: it's either Normal (i.e., a simple bug in kontact
that should be fixed) or an enhancement, depending on one's point-of-view.

[Bug 258669] New: kmail/korganizer go into a tight loop, rapidly creating nearly empty emails in groupware/Calendar folder

2010-12-03 Thread Paul Millar
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=258669

Summary: kmail/korganizer go into a tight loop, rapidly
creating nearly empty emails in groupware/Calendar
folder
   Product: kontact
   Version: 4.4.5
  Platform: Debian unstable
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: p...@astro.gla.ac.uk

Version: 4.4.5 (using KDE 4.4.5)
OS:Linux

I am using KMail with a Disconnected IMAP account. I have a groupware folder
on the IMAP server with the usual collection of subfolders: Calendar, Contacts,
Journal, Notes and Tasks. The groupware folder uses the older Kolab1
(iCal/vCard) format.

I notice that sometimes, after I've created a new event in KOrganizer, the CPU
usage of the machine has a non-zero minimum value; i.e., the CPU peaks as
demand changes, but the CPU never drops below some fairly constant value. This
is symptomatic of some process in some kind of tight(-ish) loop.

When investigating, using top, I find a single process consuming most of the
CPU: kontact. From memory (so might be wrong) there's no indication within
kontact of any activity.

I restart kontact: menu: File-Quit then start it again. Selecting Check
Mail results in KMail apparently getting stuck when synchronising the
groupware/Calendar folder. Further investigation using icedove found a large
number of emails in this folder all submitted in very, very close succession,
suggesting they have been written at a rate of roughly 100 emails per second.
Unfortunately, since there is little indication of a problem, it can be a while
before I notice. One time, kontact/kmail created some 600,000 emails in the
directory before I stopped kontact.

These rapidly created emails are almost completely empty. They don't contain
an iCal attachment and are missing basic header information like From: To:.

At the beginning of the torrent of nearly-empty emails there is one containing
the correct details for the freshly created event.

It seems that kontact/korganizer/kmail is successful in writing the email but
then goes into a tight-loop writing these broken, mostly-empty emails. My
suspicion is there's some kind of race-condition that can trigger a retry
strategy; however, this retry strategy is broken in this case.

In case it's useful, here's how I recover from the problem:
  1. stop kontact
  2. wait/ensure all kio_imap processes have finished.
  3. start icedove,
  4. select the groupware/Calendar folder,
  5. delete the mostly-empty emails and compact the folder,
  6. delete KMail's cache of groupware/Calendar folder: the maildir cache
directly in ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/dimap/... ; I delete all of the three
subdirectories (new, cur and tmp).
  7. start kontact (I have kontact configured to show kmail view on startup),
  8. select Check Mail, triggering kmail to recreate the local cache,
  9. Switch to Calendar view to verify that the event is still present;
recreate it if not.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
The problem is sporadic (happens approx once every month or so) and I haven't
been able to track down what triggers the problem.

It is possible the following procedure increases the likelihood of a problem:
  1. switch to kmail view,
  2. select the groupware/Calendar folder (one can see the emails with
attachments),
  3. switch to korganizer view,
  4. add an event,
  5. switch to kmail view,
  6. select Check Mail to synchronise email with IMAP server.

I now have kmail configure to hide the groupware folder, so cannot select this
folder. So far, the problem hasn't reappeared, although I do not take this as
strong evidence that the problem has gone away.

Actual Results:
sporadically kmail going into a tight-loop generating nearly-empty emails, as
described above.

Expected Results:
I expect kontact/korganizer/kmail to save the event in the mailbox without
generating tons of broken emails.

IMHO the bug is more serious than Normal. It doesn't result in kontact
crashing so I've marked it as Major. Strictly speaking, this is wrong as I
believe there's no risk of data-loss.

Sorry, I don't know which component is at fault here (it might be kmail), so
I've marked the problem against kontact/generic.

[Bug 258537] Mail folder in wrong place, cannot be replaced

2010-12-03 Thread abrahams
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=258537

--- Comment #6 from abrahams acm org 2010-12-03 15:55:22 ---
Perhaps I should clarify what I think the problem is. I've solved my own
problem, since I now know how to find the mail file and also how to change its
location. I see two things that need fixing:

1, If the mail is not *always* in ~/Mail, then the help file should not say
without qualification that it is there.

2. The kmail settings should include the location of the mail file, without any
reference to Akonadi. It shouldn't be necessary for an ordinary user to know
anything about Akonadi, which is after all a tool for implementers.

To answer your question about KDE 4.5.3: if you bring up the kmail settings
from Configure kmail, you get a tab with six choices: Identities, Accounts,
Appearance, Composer, Security, and Misc. Nothing about Entry, and nothing I
can find for setting the location of the mail file.

The wallet questions do not occur on WinCE. The SSL warnings are due to
broken/untrusted/self-signed/expired certificates on the server, nothing we can
do about that, the warning is important from the security point of view.

[Bug 258729] New: KMail2 launch is very slow

2010-12-03 Thread Valentin RUSU
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=258729

Summary: KMail2 launch is very slow
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 2.0.89
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: message list
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: k...@rusu.info

Version: 2.0.89 (using KDE 4.5.80)
OS:Linux

I'm a long time user of KMail, so KMail2 migration found me with lots of mails
:)
The problem : now, KMail2 launch-to-ready time is quite long. And I configured
the message list in flate mode though.
I suppose that loading messages in a background thread would do, provided that
list loading would start with the most recent messages akonadi holds, such as
new and unread messages.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Just start Kontact with 1 Gb worth of messages (I have 7323 messages in my main
folder)

Actual Results:
Application is long to get ready.

Expected Results:
Application ready to use withing seconds from launch time.

[Bug 258739] New: Replay to a message awnsers to mailinglists by default

Summary: Replay to a message awnsers to mailinglists by default

Version: 1.13.5 (using KDE 4.5.4)
OS:Linux

Hi. That Problem is very frustrating. When I got a message for example from
al...@example.com to mailinglist-stud and I try to awnswer to that message,
kmail replays per default to the mailinglist. That is REALLY FRUSTRATING. I
happens 3 times now, that I dont mind that. If I want awnswer, I like to replay
first of all to the sender. If I had choosed replay to all instead, it may be
correct to awnswer to mailinglist. but I does not. In worst cases all members
of a list get mails, I originally addressed to the origin sender of a message.
PLEASE, change that (or tell me, how to do)! That is really disturbing me. :-/

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Awnswer directly to a message witch is from one sender to a mailinglist. KMail
awnswers not to the sender but to the mailinglist

Actual Results:
KMail awnswers to the whole mailinglist

Expected Results:
KMail should awnswer to the sender of a message by default.

It is corrected now.

I can see a visual indicator (horizontal dark grey bar) at the bottom of the
tab that shows there are more options if the user scrolls down now.

I am wondering if the users will see that bar and understand what it stands
for... Maybe an arrow would be more seft explatory.

[Bug 249716] In Maintenance View, setting Markers for multiple mails does not always work

2010-12-03 Thread Sabine Faure
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=249716

--- Comment #9 from Sabine Faure sabine kdab net 2010-12-03 22:39:17 ---
I retested this today and mark an email as important works for both the Imap
inbox and its subfolders.

However, mark an email as read is still partly buggy for the Imap inbox and its
subfolders: The option becomes 'Mark Mail as Unread' as it should once the user
clicks on it but the selected email is still displayed in red whereas it should
be displayed in black. if the user leaves the maintenance mode she can see that
the emails are correctly marked as read however.

So there seems to be an unconsistency with those functionalities: one works
both from the maintenance mode and in the Imap inbox and subfolders whereas the
other can only be seen in the Imap inbox and subfolders.

I don't see that screen when I go to the same place. We clearly aren't working
with the same version of kmail since mine is in English and yours is in German.
I don't know if that's the only difference. My version is 1.13.5 under KDE
Development version 4.5.3.

[Bug 257151] Try to reopen a unread draft mail fails with couldn't restore error msg.

--- Comment #4 from Sabine Faure sabine kdab net 2010-12-03 23:16:07 ---
I retested this today and I could not reproduce with only 1 unread email in the
drafts folder however I could reproduce this bug with 2 unread email in the
drafts folder by clicking on the most recent one of the two.

- write two emails that you save as draft
- Go to the Drafts folder (Local Folders)
- The two emails appear as unread (in red)
- Click on the most recent one (the top one)

The 'Restore Draft Error' pop up dialogue appears.

I retested this bug several times and was never able to reproduce it so I think
it is corrected.

It most probably was linked to bug #257151 which is now partly corrected.

So I am closing this bug. I will reopen it if needed.

[Bug 257356] Replace functionality not implemented in Composer

--- Comment #3 from Sabine Faure sabine kdab net 2010-12-03 23:49:57 ---
I retested this today and I could scroll down and see the entire 'Replace'
dialogue that looks just like your attachment.

For some reason I could not scroll down last time I tested this.

However I was still able to reproduce the second part of the bug:

If the user enters 'Testing' in the 'Find' line edit and then clicks on
the 'Replace' button then another empty dialogue called 'Replace - Kmail
Mobile' appears with 3 buttons ('Replace', 'Skip' and 'All')
See attachment below.

If the user clicks on the 'Replace' button from this dialogue and then on 'Ok'
in the 'Information' one she can see that the replace functionality actually
works.

There should not be any empty dialogues.

Also while the 'Replace' dialogue appears the text in the composer is blurred
so it does not help the user to decide whether she wants to replace a word or
not as she cannot see the context.

Empty 'Replace' dialogue with 3 buttons

Notice how the text in the Composer is blurred preventing the user to make an
informed decision on whether to replace or skip since she cannot read the
original text anymore.
