When changing font and/or font size in the message list and message body in the
mail component of Kontact, nothing happens.  The font is listed in the
configurations dialog as being changed, and consistent opening of the dialog,
even after restarting Koncact, shows the previously selected settings but fonts
are still displayed in default font and size.  The folder list fonts are able
to be changed.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to Mail component of Kontact.
2. Open 'Settings', 'Configure Kmail', 'Appearance' and select 'Fonts' tab.
3. Change Font or either font attribute for 'Message List' and/or 'Message
Body' and select 'Apply'

Actual Results:  
After closing dialog, fonts in message list and body remain at default
settings.

Expected Results:  
After closing dialog, fonts should be what user selected.

Client fails to start. I get the activity timer ticking as if it is going to
load, then it vanishes without starting. Yet I get the notifications that
emails are arriving.

So I can't view the mail boxes nor send emails.

So where do I look to find what the problem is?

One option I have is to use thunderbird... but I would need to disable Kmail
entirely. Obviously the part that polls the pop server every 5 minutes is still
working.

KDE 5.5.5
Qt 5.5.1

Example mbox showing problem.

I'm also seeing this, specifically for HTML only emails (ie. no text/plain part
in the mail) with embedded images.
The attached file is a simple email that shows the problem with a
multipart/related - On hitting reply the quoted text is 'Image1' which is the
data for the first attached image, not the expected 'HTML Text'.

On a clean openSUSE Leap 42.2 RC1 system (with kmail 5.3.0 and akonadi-server
16.08.2), I run kmail for the first time. It shows a "Starting Akonadi server"
message for some seconds, then a dialog appears to "Provide personal data"
(full name, email and password), and practically at the same time I get an
error box from kmail that says:
"The Email program encountered a fatal error and will terminate now.
The error was:
Could not create collection inbox, resourceId: 3"

I ran kmail with full logs as dvratil suggested and got the attached output.
That gave lots of information, and the directed to the real problem:

I also use kmail with a dark theme in Plasma. Frequently, I receive html
messages that don't set the background colour appropriately and assume a light
colour background (e.g. white, very light grey). Switching to text mode
sometimes helps but frequently doesn't.

A short cut key to switch between dark and light backgrounds would be a great
usability improvement. Also, the setting should be saved in the message to
avoid having to switch the background colour every time.

I observe similar bug on Arch linux, with: akonadictl --version
Akonadi 5.3.2

Although I can work with the mail (at least those synced so far), the syncing
hangs on 97% (see the attached screenshot, other accounts work in parallel).
The only solution to get the mailbox synced again is to call 'akonadictl
restart'.

There are about 6000 messages in the sent-mail folder.
