[kontact] [Bug 382226] New: Editor is extremely slow

2017-07-10 Thread Aaron Williams
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=382226

Bug ID: 382226
   Summary: Editor is extremely slow
   Product: kontact
   Version: 5.3.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: mail
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: aar...@doofus.org
  Target Milestone: ---

When trying to compose or reply to an email the editor is being extremely slow.
It is slow to the point where it takes several minutes for the text I type to
appear. Moving or setting the cursor position is equally slow. I attempted to
switch to KMail/Kontact precisely because Thunderbird is unusably slow.

I have two email accounts, both IMAP hosted with a lot of email in them. I do
not see Kmail/Korganizer or Akonadi consuming any CPU in top and there's no
disk wait (SSD).

The only thing going on is I have a few instances of KDevelop open and one of
them is slowly running the background parser on a large project. This is a
quad-core system so there is plenty of idle CPU time, however.

kmail-related-packages-installed.txt

Hello,
I use opensuse leap 42.2 with kde , kmail2, plasma5, kontact, akonadi, mariadb
.
uname -a
Linux .dom 4.4.74-18.20-default #1 SMP Fri Jun 30 19:01:19 UTC 2017
(b5079b8) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
The levels of kmail, akonadi... packages are provided in one of the
attachments.

For several week I noticed that some emails are received again even if they are
deleted/moved to trash and the settings of account is set to not keeping emails
longer than 7 days .
In the last 2 weeks the issue has become more annoying .
Yesterday I applied the latest maintenance available via zypper up and it
touched the kmail, akonadi packages .

After rebooting the machine I start receiving hundreds of emails with date back
to 10-June-2017 . I thought that id they are moved to trash that will stop .
I was mistaken ... they appeared again and again regardless if the emails were
moved to trash or simply deleted .

To alleviate this aggravation I created a filter to direct all emails with
date before July 7 2017 into a new folder . All other filters
which started receiving some where from 10 to 80/90 emails were changed to
direct the emails in the above described folder .

akonadictl fsck and/or vacuum has no effect on this issue .

I noticed hundreds of lines " Item .. has no RID " .
akonadictl listings are provided below because I was able to attach only one
attachment .

Questions :
1. Is there any way to check the mysql [ i.e. maridb ] database used by kmail2
?
If there is , could you please give me some info/procedures ?

2). How could I get rid of all those "Item . has no RID." ?
Is it possible ?

3). It seems that potentially the existing database id toasted .
What would be the procedure for
a) full backup of the existing kmail2/akonadi environment
b) total removal of the existing kmail2/akonadi environment
c) creating a brand new kmail2/akonadi env
d) migrating the emails from the backup (a) to the new env .

I hope that there are some "kmail/akonadi/mariadb" solutions .

Thank you,
Nick Dordea

Could not attach the .ics file as the link to it was to a script and not
directly to the file. In future, I'll try to download and save the .ics file
that doesn't display to see if it is a direct link or through a script.

[kontact] [Bug 360524] Filter overload

2017-07-10 Thread Eric
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=360524

Hi Denis,
Thks for your feedback.
I've been away from home since February, didn't check my Kontact nore
did have any opportunity to update it.
I need to plan this update as it will be very complicated,
I will have to re-setup all the simlink to the partition where my email
database is installed (different HDD) and that takes a long annoying
time (compared to Thunderbird which does it with one click)

By the time I come back home this will be closed.

I will re-open one if necessary

Have a great day !
Éric

I'm trying to work out how to clean out confidential information from an
example message while still including one that will cause the bug. In the
meantime, the messages all come from our Veeam Backup and Replication server,
so if anyone has access to one of those it should be easy enough to reproduce
the bug. Just hit "Reply" to any message generated from same.

If anyone has advice on how to submit sufficient data to reproduce this bug
while scrubbing confidential info I'm more than willing to do so.

How to reproduce:
Install Leap 42.3 or tumbleweed (both are actually on the same KDE version)
Start kontact
Create IMAP Email-account and sync mail
Add google contacts and sync contacts
create new mail message, add some recipients, and save this as distribution
list in the local address book (same issue if you save it in the google address
book, just as remark)

create new mail message. Drag the distribution list to the recipient field.
result: not possibe (KMail prevents the drop into the address bar)
