No, that's not your fault. Qt 4.8.7 was released well before distros started
shipping KF5 desktops, and some of the distros covered by my remark are still
under LTS.

kmail-5.4.3 from mageia-6 uses Qt 5.6.2.

I *think* I stopped seeing this crash after updating to Qt 4.8.7 . Please try
that (it's a real shame that distros leave people stranded on such an old
version for so long.)

It seems kmail crashes because its process doesn't end when closed by
File->Quit.
Killing kmail process makes it start without crash.
