Unfortunately, with the updated 17.12.0 sources I cannot reproduce it in the
debugger, no matter what.
On the bright side, the corruption has not occured once since the update.

I had to switch to Liferea! :(
Unfortunately, its solution is to use a regular browser's cookie store. I have

Some additional info:
The problem computer (KMail only uses TLSv1 for SMTP) has ksmtp-17.12.1 which
seems introduced in 17.12.
Another computer, with 17.08, has no ksmtp package and KMail successfully
