it's a problem with url vs string.
I will investigate it soon

[kmail2] [Bug 408354] New: If default maildir folder is changed a new set of folders are stored under "/home/$user/file:"

2019-06-05 Thread Nick
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=408354

Bug ID: 408354
Summary: If default maildir folder is changed a new set of
folders are stored under "/home/$user/file:"
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 5.11.1
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: folders
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: nick.craig@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 120604
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=120604=edit
Dialog box where you change the maildir folder

If the default maildir folder is changed using the dialog box as shown in the
attached snapshot then kmail fails to use that folder but creates a new folder
under your home directory in a folder called "file:"

Example:

If you enter /home/nick/Data/local-mail as the folder containing your maildir
files, kmail instead creates and uses
/home/nick/file:/home/nick/Data/local-mail.directory/

which of course isn't where your maildir folders and files are !

Why is kmail creating a subdirectory called "file:" in your home directory ?

The problem this creates is that any old emails that are in
/home/nick/Data/local-mail don't get indexed or displayed by kmail.

Also because kmail insists on creating a file: subdirectory in your home folder
and storing new email there you can't have all your emails on a different
partition to your home folder.

I still have the 100% cpu problem with KMail 19.04.

But not always, after killing KMail (I didn't restart Akonadi) and restarting
it, I get a normal ~10-13% cpu.

I will try to find a way to reproduce this bug.

No, blocking still does not work for me in version 5.11.x (KDE Neon now). No
change.

But thanks for working on it, Akregator sure as hell needs some fixes.

I was bitten by this bug too. The problematic file was
agent_config_akonadi_imap_resource_0_changes.dat

After applying the suggested workaround (stop akonadi, rename the file, start
akonadi), the issue went away.

this is on
