OK - understood. It would be helpful if someone can duplicate this to allow the
devs to reliably reproduce the issue at will. I'll leave this here for now in
case anyone with more expertise than me can take a look. Thanks.

Install akonadiconsole. Stop akonadi. Replace your akonadiserverrc file with
the first one of Comment 1. Restart akonadi.

My feeling is that the behavior with those settings are not interesting. It
would rather be interesting to know whether those settings can occur without
user interaction.

I cannot provide more info than what is in the original report. If the
backtrace doesn't point to a specific code path, I guess this report cannot be
followed up.

[kmail2] [Bug 483987] New: "Reply all" protection: ask for confirmation before replying to a potentially large number of recipients

2024-03-19 Thread Thomas Fischer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483987

Bug ID: 483987
Summary: "Reply all" protection: ask for confirmation before
replying to a potentially large number of recipients
Classification: Applications
   Product: kmail2
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: composer
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: fisc...@unix-ag.uni-kl.de
  Target Milestone: ---

Similar to the existing "Check Before Send Mail" plugin, Kmail should warn and
ask for an extra confirmation if an email is about to be sent to a potentially
large number of recipients.
Criteria to test for:
- Number of recipients in To, CC, and BCC fields is about a certain threshold
- A mail address previously configured by the user as a "distribution address"
is used.

A "distribution address" would be a mail address like "every...@example.com",
where the mail server then takes are to distribute the mail to a large number
of recipients.

Those check should not be limited to cases when the user chooses "reply all".
Even a 'normal' reply to a distribution address should trigger a warning.

Implementation detail/suggestion: Before sending, KMail or Akonadi counts the
number of mail addresses (To, CC, BBC). Every mail address which is in the list
of known distribution addresses counts 1000 (or any sufficiently large number).
The threshold for a warning is 10.

I played a little more with gdb and discovered the following.

The infinite loop happens in QTextDocumentLayoutPrivate::layoutBlock, in the
"while (1)" block at line 3477:
https://code.qt.io/cgit/qt/qtbase.git/tree/src/gui/text/qtextdocumentlayout.cpp?h=6.6.2

Here, tl->createLine is called.
>From QTextLayout::createLine, on lines 802/803,
https://code.qt.io/cgit/qt/qtbase.git/tree/src/gui/text/qtextlayout.cpp?h=6.6.2
I can see that the "from" field is always 0. So, the incoming text is never
consumed, and an endless number of 0-length QTextLines are produced. This is
where all the memory is consumed.

With the help of gdb, I dumped the problematic html payload which is passed to
QTextEdit::setHtml (it is the "reply" formatted html string prepared by kmail
in response to the mail we're replying to) and created a test program
populating a QTextLine with the same payload. The program worked correctly, so
I don't really understand what is going on here. Maybe some layout settings
from kmail are not handled correctly by Qt 6 code, who knows.

A dev eye would be really appreciated at this point. At a first glance what
kmail is doing seems correct to me.

[korganizer] [Bug 483976] New: KOrganizer forgets the enabled calendars

2024-03-19 Thread András Manţia
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483976

Bug ID: 483976
Summary: KOrganizer forgets the enabled calendars
Classification: Applications
   Product: korganizer
   Version: 6.0.0
  Platform: openSUSE
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: aman...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
KOrganizer regularly forget what calendar was enabled and all calendars remain
unchecked.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Hard to reproduce, but I suspect this happens when KOrganizer crashes for
whatever reason. That is what happened just now: some calendars were enable,
removed an event. While Kontact was in the background, it crashed. After
restarting no calendars were enabled.
This bug is not recent, it is around for a very long time.

OBSERVED RESULT
All calendars are unchecked.

EXPECTED RESULT
It should keep the state the user selected.
