[Akonadi] [Bug 439631] Akonadi crashes often and sometimes it doesn't start up at all

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=439631

I tracked this down to specifically akonadi_imap_resources crashing, makes
sense as it often (but not always) happens when I receive a new email. Sadly
imap crashing takes the whole of Akonadi with it...

[Akonadi] [Bug 439631] New: Akonadi crashes often and sometimes it doesn't start up at all

2021-07-08 Thread Bart Ribbers
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=439631

Bug ID: 439631
Summary: Akonadi crashes often and sometimes it doesn't start
up at all
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: server
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: bribb...@disroot.org
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 139942

akonadictl start crash log

SUMMARY
On my system, Akonadi crashes _constantly_. Not so much it's unusable, but
enough to be _really_ annoying. Normally Kontact manages to restart it after
instructed to do so, but sometimes akonadi just keeps crashing on startup and
is completely unusable till I reboot.

The log talks about "D-Bus session bus is not available" when I try to start it
via akonadictl, but seeing most of the time Akonadi _does_ start, I fail to see
how that could be breaking it.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have Kontact or Kmail running in the background
2. After a while of idling, click on an e-mail
3. Observe Akonadi most of the time, but not always, crashing

OBSERVED RESULT
Akonadi crashes and has to be restarted before the PIM suite can be used again.

EXPECTED RESULT
Akonadi to not crash obviously.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Alpine Linux
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.83.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3 (KDE patches applied)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This system uses Musl libc instead of glibc which might be the cause of the
issues here, uncertain.

was a dependency. It isn't listed in CMakeLists.txt and it's not printed when

Please write in English, thank you.
Can you please:

 - send the configuration you are using.
 - open kmail from console and send the output of the console after sending the
email.
 - open (or install first) akonadi console, go to "logging" and enable it. Once
enabled, send a new mail. Once mail was sent (or not sent), stop the logging
and selected save to file, and attach it.

Can you try the following:

- open kmail
- then click on an email address (mailto:)

does it still crash then?

When kmail is open (using 'system tray' option as workaround), this is working
for me.
When kmail is closed, it also fails for me.
But the workaround is working for me

You seem to be completely right, installing openldap-dev fixed it, thanks. May
I suggest adding a check for it in CMakeLists.txt?

Bug ID: 397484
Summary: Compilation failure due to prototype mismatching

OS: Linux

  Severity: normal

  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org

I'm trying to compile/package kldap for postmarketOS
(https://postmarketos.org), which uses Alpine Linux and thus Musl rather than
glibc. However, compilation fails because of the attached error.

This happens using the latest unstable version (18.07.90).

  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal

  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org

Normally, when you navigate via the keyboard arrow keys from one article to the
next or previous article, the corresponding webpage should be shown in the
content pane.
But instead, the content pane keeps showing the same page.
More specifically : the selected line in the article list is correctly changed,
but the corresponding article content is not updated.
Until a few months ago, navigating via the keyboard arrows did work as
expected.

I also got hit by this issue, I imported an invitation but it did not show in
the month view. Spend some time investigating why, can there be at least a
placeholder in stead of hiding the event?

I have two disconnected imap directories, and one standard local folder
directory. Kmail crashes on all three.

I tried to find debug enabled packages for kmail in the openSUSE installation
repo, but couldn't find one for kde4-kmail-4.0.80-9.3. I do get some debug info

[Bug 164980] New: kmail crashes when adding sent mail folder to identities

Summary: kmail crashes when adding sent mail folder to identities
   Product: kmail
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: SuSE RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs kde org
ReportedBy: bart geesink org

Version:(using KDE 4.0.4)
Installed from:SuSE RPMs
OS:Linux

I just installed openSUSE 11.0 which came with KDE 4.0.4. I copies all my email
and settings to the new ~.kde4 directory. The identities were lost afterwards,
so I tried to make new identities. When I try to click the sign to open one of
the mailboxes (I mean the sign so the folder list will expand, don't really
know how this is called) kmail crashes.

Sorry, that was not very clear. If I want to add a new identity, and I want to
change where the sent mails are being saved in the advanced tab, kmail crashes
when I try to choose the folder. I happens when I try to unfold the list of
folder in a particular mailbox.
