The fact that I can have an inconsistent state stored in my Akonadi DB is
telling. Apparently, while clients interact with Akonadi, the DB goes through
inconsistent states. Those appear to be open to races

FWIW, I'm on KMail/Kontact 5.5.3, akonadiserver 5.5.3, KDE neon User Edition
5.10, and I'm not seeing the crash anymore.
I have not replaced config files, Mail storage, or anything else

yes, this looks likely to be the same issue. I'm waiting for RC2 packages. But
