Dear Bug Submitter,

This bug has been in NEEDSINFO status with no change for at least
15 days. Please provide the requested information as soon as
possible and set the bug status as REPORTED. Due to regular bug
tracker maintenance, if the bug is still in NEEDSINFO status with
no change in 30 days the bug will be closed as RESOLVED > WORKSFORME
due to lack of needed information.

I'm unable to reproduce the problem anymore using the latest software version.

I am able to reproduce this bug trying to open an empty message, with nothing
written in the message body and no attachment. Kmail keeps on "retrieving
folder contents" even after changing message selection, until kmail is killed
(simply closing kmail from the menu is not enough) and opened again.
kmail & related libs from Arch linux (kde applications 17.04.2).

I have the same problem. Kmail gets stuck multiple times a day on "Retrieving
folder contents, Please Wait" and hangs.

The solution is to kill everything Akonadi and Kmail related.

Already downloaded mails can not be displayed, as mentioned by Farandole.
