Interesting - I think this must not be a kernel problem. While trying to
do the bisection testing, I accidentally removed some needed drivers, so
I just reinstalled 13.10.
When I originally installed 13.10 (from the same USB drive), the
trackpad was definitely working, but now it is not. I think
I built a test kernel with commit 66c28f97 reverted.
The test kernel can be downloaded from:

The BT device ID was missing in the driver. After recompiling the ath3k
and btusb modules with this patch bluetooth works. But I had to modprobe
