the one in proposed is 3.13.0-54. "-virtual" is a form of transitional
package that pulls in the generic kernel, but there is a difference in
kernel modules loaded. Looks like you had some older kernels (3.13.0-32

I was able to install a -virtual kernel, however it's not showing up as a boot
option.
This is what I have on a 14.04.1 build after enabling trusty-proposed branch in
sources.list.
The OS is still booting with the -generic kernel and there is no -virtual
kernel in grub after installing th
If -virtual sits on top of the -generic kernel, then with kernel
3.13.0-54-generic I do see the hid_hyperv and hyperv_fb drivers loaded on the
system.

Not hit this problem again yet and I have been running the updated
kernel for a week. I have just hit bug#1462308 which seems to report a
problem with X but I don't know if it is related to this issue or not.
