I am getting a similar issue with Ubuntu 14.04 and kernel 3.19.0-31 on
Lenovo T440p. The system freezes at login screen and can't be used after
that only thing that can be done is a hard reset.
Works OK on the other hand with 3.19.0-30.

Sir now I've upgraded my ubuntu pc to the latest mainline kernel but sad to

I have a similar issue, though I've so far only seen it once. I plugged
in two separate HDD's into two separate USB3 ports and neither worked.
The syslog is below. Rebooting the system cleared up the issue and they
both work ok afterwards.

I can confirm that version 3.19.0-31.36 fixes the issue on my vivid
64bits install. (The observations mentioned in comment #4 was from a
vivid 32bits install.)
