Well, it looks like I spoke too soon. I rebooted 3.13.0-77-generic again
and it failed to boot with:
Kernel panic - not syncing Attempting to kill init! exitcode=0x0009
I tried to take a picture of it with my laptop's camera, but you can't really
read it:
I actually did some more tests.
While paired with the Car unit, everything is fine (Note that I pair the phone
Handsfree and audio capability). When I power off the car unit and didn't
previously disable the pairing manually (Means the phone thinks it is still
paired), that behavior starts.

I had Xubuntu 15.04, and the steps in Post #118 worked for me.
Upon upgrading to Xubuntu 15.10, the WiFi card was no longer recognized.
Retrying the steps in Post #118 resulted in error messages.

Neither my test kernel from comment #13 nor the -proposed Trusty kernel
have commit d34af82 applied. However, my test kernel did not exhibit
the performance regression. My test kernel had good results per comment
#14. @Chris, could there have been an issue with the test and maybe my
kernel did
Lonnie Lee Best, would you need a backport to a release prior to 16.04?
